I don’t like it when the pads flip flop. It happens all the time to me. There is not set pad for sparking. I get pets that are on either. very annoying.

That’s because it always shows the parent that the baby takes the species from on the left. You have no control over that — it’s random which parent is picked as the species.

Just won the Rainbow Retriever last night, and bought the plush, though I was disappointed to learn that it won’t come with any codes, I under stand that I already have the virtual pet on NEXT, but I would have liked to have one on Classic, like the other purchasable pets that come with two codes.

Just wondering if it matter which pet is placed on the left vs. the right when sparking. For example, if I put a dog on the left and a cat on the right, will the baby be more likely to be a dog vs. cat based on placement of parents? Also, do parent-pets use up their sparks with each baby? In other words, if a parent-pet has one spark, can it only be used once to spark a baby vs a 3-spark parent-pet that could only be used 3 times?

    • Sally Webkinz says:

The order you put the pets in does not matter. It’s a 50-50 chance. One is randomly set as the base parent (the one whose shape the baby takes after), and that always ends up on the left in the display of the results. And yes, each parent provides 1 spark each. The starter pet has 1 spark, so if you spark with a purchased pet that has 3 sparks, the end result is that the starter pet has 0 sparks left and the purchased pet has 2 sparks left. Every baby takes 2 sparks to create.

Thank you for featuring these pet babies! I am amazed at the traits that have come out on these pets, and how the unique combinations create entirely new features. Some of the parent pets are already so unique in their markings that I was wondering if there is any way to know what generation each pet is, so newbies like me can know what we have to look forward to? For instance, are the featured babies second gen, or tenth? Can these traits pop up when we spark our first baby, or not until many pets down the line? My favorites from this showcase are Forest Fairydream’s uncommen unicorn with blue sparkle feet, and Wolf Tundrawoofer’s rare white pup with rainbow sparkle feet. Congrats to all the new parents!!!

    • Sally Webkinz says:

My first baby sparked was my Rare purple cat — and that was from the starter Orange Tabby and a purchased Green Frog, so two common first gens. It’s definitely not restricted to higher generations! In your My Pets view, it shows you what generation your pet is, but I don’t think it does that anywhere else for anyone else to see.

      • Beckinz8 says:

Thanks Sally Webkinz! Now I am even more excited! Maybe you can answer another question. If the parent pets are both dogs, for example, will the baby be a dog with traits from both? They wouldn’t end up with a baby gorilla from under a cabbage leaf, would they? Your two parent pets would have only sparked either a cat or a frog baby, right?

        • Sally Webkinz says:

OK, in general it works like this: your baby will be the same type as one of the parents and will inherit at least one trait from each. The remaining traits are random, which is how you can get all these rare features from common parents. The exception to this are the limited edition plush pets — for those, you don’t have to use the same pet type to get it. So, it’s possible to get the Pinkalicious Pig from two dogs, or the Rainbow Retriever from a cat and a frog (which actually happened to me!), but your odds of getting those special ones are increased if you use the similar pet (the Landrace Pig to get the Pinkalicious, the Golden Retriever to get the Rainbow Retriever, etc).

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions!! I don’t know if you will see this question about Next that is unrelated to babies. I have been really excited to increase my Family Score to earn the higher level prizes. (4500 – Garden Bird Feeder; 5000 – the KinzCash Machine) because I thought they would have the dispensing functionality that they have in Classic. Do they do something, and I just need to clear my cache or download an update or something? I’ll be happy to hear from any seasoned Next player on this one!

          • Sally Webkinz says:

The Bird Feeder is just decorative (no cookies), but the KinzCash Machine dispenses 20 or 25 KinzCash a day (can’t remember off hand).

          • Beckinz8 says:

My KinzCash machine doesn’t do anything for me. I have tried moving it and removing and replacing it in the room. Sally, do you have any way to have someone give it a kick for me, or should I just bother the nice customer service folks again?

          • Sally Webkinz says:

Keep an eye on your KinzCash total the next time you click on it. It should change. The W above it disappears, the KinzCash total changes, but you won’t get a pop up or anything like that.

          • Beckinz8 says:

Thanks Sally Webkinz! I appreciate all the time and care that you have taken to answer my questions! My KinzCash machine in Next now adds to my KinzCash total, so if you gave it a kick, many many thanks!!

I am trying to earn enough gems to make a baby :) Congrats for getting on here everyone :))

    • Beckinz8 says:

I am patiently working toward the same goal. I think I have about seven more weeks. If I have calculated right, I will have something extra to be thankful for this year at Thanksgiving! Best of luck, @frozen!!

      • megamom12 says:

I have 10 more weeks to go and I get to ‘spark’ a new baby with the new pet that I just adopted!!! So excited!

      • sjc4498 says:

I am saving too. I could have sworn that it used to be 70 gems, now it appears to be 80. I saved the 70 and went to go make a baby and I was surprised to see it be 80 gems.

        • jeanie45 says:

Yes I was so sad when I finally saved 150 gems and adopted a new pet only to find out you need an additional 80 gems to complete the adoption. I did finally have a baby husky named Bundle of Joy! The whole process has been fun, except for the grumpy toddler phase.

        • frozenanna2 says:

Hi, guys! Thanks for the kind words. I only have 0 gems, LOL! I have 16 more weeks till I can use my sparks. Unless I buy gems with real money, but I know I will never do that. :) Best of luck to you both! – Have a great weekend!
