The Leaf Collection Event starts soon in Next! From September 15 to 30 visit the Leaf Pile in Kinzville and click on it to collect leaves and earn stunning autumn-themed prizes. You can collect 1 leaf a day and also ask up to 4 friends a day to send you leaves.

This year the prizes include an Autumn Tree Globe, Autumn Rug, Autumn Bench, and Autumn Bookshelf, as well as the beautiful grand prize, an Autumn Swing!

Cheeky pets are iconic in Webkinz Classic and no wonder – the very first Cheeky pets, the cat and the dog, were both released in May 2005 shortly after our launch!

Although we weren’t able to track down original concept drawings, we did find this very early illustration of a Cheeky Cat’s face. (We’re glad the artists kept working on it!)

 
Sometimes, when the plush pets haven’t been professionally photographed yet, the artists would just plop a pet down on their desk and take a photo to use as reference. Check out the Cheeky Cat in our offices in 2005!

And our early pets each had their own ‘Character Sheet’. This is an information page that showed all of the pets’ poses and broke down the colors used for each part of the pet.

Back then pets could still get sick and visit Dr. Quack. In 2015, Dr. Quack found a way to cure pets of all illnesses and retired, so our pets no longer get sick, but you can still keep them in prime condition with a visit to Dr. Quack’s clinic in the Clubhouse!

After the release of the first two pets, the Cheeky Monkey and Bunny were to follow, as well as several more including one lil pet.

But before you answer the trivia question below, take note: there is one cheeky pet that is not really a cheeky pet! The Cheeky Cherry Hippo was released as a companion to the Cheeky Cherry theme and is not technically one of the ‘cheeky’ pets (although as a hippo it does have some pretty chubby cheeks!)

In case you hadn’t already guessed, the VERY first Webkinz Sock pet ever to be released was the virtual Sock Monkey! The Sock Monkey was released in 2010.

But did you know that the Sock Monkey could’ve looked quite different? Based on traditional sock monkeys, the original concept art for the Sock Monkey actually had buttons for eyes!

It was decided that giving the Sock Monkey proper eyes would give the pet more personality and the design was revised.

 
The original design also had a different color. The first mock-up of the Sock Monkey was a brown sock with cream and red accents.

 
In the end, the color of this virtual pet was changed to grey and we think it’s absolutely adorable.

 
So adorable in fact, that a few years later, in 2014, a plush version of the Sock Monkey was released.

 
To avoid any confusion the plush was named the Knit Sock Monkey and it was joined that same year by the plush Knit Sock Dog!

 
Webkinz Classic continues to add virtual pets to its family of cute Sock pets. Which brings us to…
