Responding to recent Pet Name Issues in Webkinz World

For the past few weeks, a bad actor has been actively creating free accounts with offensive pet names and then earning high scores in specific games so that those pet names are shown to all players. We have been removing these names as fast as we can find them. Unfortunately, this person refuses to stop and at this time we have been forced to take more drastic steps.

We have now reduced the number of letters shown in our high score lists and high score displays in the arcade for pet names down to three, matching the Usernames. This is not a long-term solution, as we know that players work hard to get onto these lists and enjoy seeing their pets displayed, but it will effectively stop the problem.

Our pet name system relies on a bad word filter, aka a blacklist. We block hundreds of bad words and words that we don’t want to see in pet names. And for over twenty years, this has worked. The vast majority of players give their pets fun names that expresses their creativity and love for their pet. Unfortunately, people can say very bad things with common words that are not bad words by themselves.

We are looking into longer term solutions that will maintain our players ability to use fun and creative names, while preventing the abuse we are seeing here. We hope to roll these out in the new year.

We do apologize to all players who have had to view these offensive names. We value all our incredible players and see Webkinz World as an inclusive, welcoming space for everyone.

Start Collecting Acorns!

Collect Acorns throughout September to win prizes you can use to build a retro basement for your pets to enjoy!

Here’s how it works: Look for the Acorn Collection icon on your Kinzville Map on the Webkinz Classic Desktop App, and click on it to see your collection. The icon will appear on the right side of your screen if you are playing on the browser version of Webkinz Classic:

You’ll get one free Acorn every day, just for clicking on the collection icon (Deluxe Members will get two free Acorns a day).

Once you have received your free Acorn, you can get five more throughout the day by asking your friends (by clicking the ASK FRIENDS button) or by finding and clicking on the floating Acorn on WebkinzNewz.com (make sure you collect your free one first before trying to find one on Webkinz Newz).

Need more friends to help you complete your collection? Click the ASK FRIENDS button, then click the NEED MORE FRIENDS? button to see other players looking for friends and add them to your Friends List.

Back-to-School Fashion Paper Dolls!

These pets may be fashion forward but this is your chance to interact with them in a totally retro way! It’s our four newest plush pets, with their Classic avatars reimagined as old-school paper dolls! There are four pets you can print out and each one comes with its own outfit! Just cut out the pets and their clothing pieces and dress the pets by folding the tabs on the clothing to keep them in place.

The Classic Northern Giraffe and the Asian Elephant can try on the new outfits the Back-to-School Gift Bag from Ganz eStore! The giraffe is taking fashion to the next level with the Next Level Dress, Wig, and Shoes, while the elephant can chill in its Chill Vibes Suit and Wig.
