Though, now that I think about it, the Russian word for “sapphire” is “sapfir” (pronounced sap-fear). So, if it helps, you could think of your pet’s name as a cool variation of either! (And I’m writing this almost exactly a year after my original comment. Weird…)

It’s okay! I was adopting one of my pets late one night (Odile laPooffe my Lil’ Black Poodle), but I didn’t check how I spelled her name. Her name is now Odlie (pronounced oddly) laPooffe.
