Wow! I can’t believe March is almost over. It has been so much fun being Pet of the Month. But with Easter just around the corner I’m going to be pretty busy helping my friend, the Easter Bunny, get all the chocolate ready.

But before I go, I’ve got a couple more fun facts for you. 

We ducks are pretty good fliers. We usually fly at about 40 to 60 miles/hour, and between 200 to 4,000 feet, but there are records showing that we can go much faster and higher than that. But when we are molting, or shedding our feathers, some types of ducks can’t fly at all and have to look for a safe place to hang out while they molt.

Unlike some other water birds, we can take off pretty easily from water.

Did you know that there are over 100 different species of ducks and we live all over the world? I’ll bet some of us even live close to you!

Pet of the Month here. I’ll bet you already knew that my very favorite food is Cheese and Quackers from Webkinz World. But there are lots of other things that we love to eat too!

We love to eat grasses and aquatic plants. We have a serrated ridge along the side of our beaks that lets us filter out the water as eat.  We also like to eat fish, worms, insects and amphibians like frogs and toads. Our wide, flat beaks are shaped a bit like a shovel, which makes them perfect for digging around in the mud for small creatures and weeds.

The Duck is March’s Pet of the Month, and we’re celebrating! Look for the floating Duck between March 22 and March 29 and you could win either a Duck Billed Hat or a Chocolate Medallion each day. Limit of one prize per Webkinz World account per day. Each day runs from 12:00am to 11:59pm.

Since March is MY month, I wanted to share some fun facts with you about ducks like me.

Did you know that the name ‘duck’ comes from the Old English word ‘duce’ that means ‘diver’? That’s because, in order to feed, we duck our heads under the water. Sometimes a female is referred to as a ‘duck’ and a male is called a ‘drake’ but some people call the female a ‘hen,’ just like chicken.
