The big day is here and it’s time to interview Alyssa, Queen of the Good Fairies. I’m a bit nervous, friends!

E: Hello, Alyssa. Thank you so much for agreeing to be interviewed. I’d like to talk to you about the history of the fairies.
A: Oh, great. I’ve got lots to tell you! The fairies have a very rich and interesting history dating back over –
E: Sorry to interrupt, maybe I’ll be a bit more specific. I’m interested in the splitting of the good and bad fairies.
A: Oh.
E: Um. So…could you tell me how that happened?
A: It’s a story of betrayal. Of anger. Of pain. It’s not a story I like to tell, Ella.
E: Could you make a tiny exception?
A: I’m sure you’ve heard it all – Nafaria trying to mortally wound me, leaving me and flying home to become queen – I’m sure you know it well.
E: I know what everyone else knows – but what I DON’T know is what really happened when the two of you were alone in the forest, practicing your spells.
A: She zapped me. She said “Look at this!” and then zapped me with some ridiculously strong spell.
E: Do you think she did it on purpose?
A: She flew off afterward. What do you think?
E: Rumor has it that she flew off because she was scared.
A: She didn’t look too scared to me. Maybe shocked – but not really scared.
E: She saved you when you got back, though.
A: She didn’t help search for me! She made me sleep for an entire year! Long enough to become the queen! You don’t think that was a coincidence, do you?
E: I guess not. But why do you think she threw your friendship away?
A: For fame. For glory. For power. It’s funny what some fairies will do to be in charge. I wasn’t important enough – the only thing that mattered was being the queen.
E: Are you still angry at Nafaria?
A: I’m not really angry anymore – I just avoid Nafaria as much as I can. She’s bad news.
E: Do you ever miss her?
A: That’s a hard question to answer. I miss the Nafaria I knew when we were young. I don’t miss the fairy she is today.
E: Thank you for the interview, Alyssa.
A: You’re welcome.

In the interest of balanced reporting, today I interviewed a bad fairy – who also asked to remain anonymous.

E: Thanks for agreeing to speak to me.
ABF: Well, we can’t have the good fairies doing all the talking, can we?
E: I suppose not. Let me ask you what I asked an anonymous good fairy. What was it like when Nafaria and Alyssa had their fight?
ABF: It was pretty stressful. Everyone had to choose a side – and those of us with a brain in our head chose Nafaria. She’s smarter, stronger and better able to lead.
E: You didn’t like Alyssa?
ABF: She was OK. But Alyssa is much weaker than Nafaria. If we’d ever had the competition to choose the queen, Nafaria would’ve won, no problem.
E: Do you remember what it was like when Nafaria and Alyssa were best friend?
ABF: Yes. It was ridiculous. Everyone knew Nafaria was too good for Alyssa – that she was just her pity friend. Alyssa’s mom and Nafaria’s mom were friends. They forced the girls to play together when they were young.
E: So you don’t think they were ever actually friends?
ABF: I doubt it.
E: Wow. Was Nafaria sad when she had to leave the good fairies?
ABF: Maybe a little? I don’t know. I think she was pretty happy to take up the role of queen again. I only remember one time…one time when she was giving a speech at a banquet. She was telling a story about when she was a child. She said “My best friend at the time was like a sister to me.” And she looked really upset. She left the dinner shortly after that.
E: Do you think they’ll ever speak again?
ABF: No chance. Too much has happened. They’re just too different now.
E: Do you think they could’ve patched things up when the fight first happened?
ABF: Maybe, maybe not. They’re very different fairies.
E: Lots to think about. Thank you, Anonymous Bad Fairy.

Hey everyone! OK, so I TRIED to schedule an interview with Alyssa and Nafaria…but they weren’t able to meet today. I’m going to interview them soon, though! Today’s interview is with a good fairy – but she prefers to remain anonymous.

E: Thanks for allowing me to interview you, Anonymous Good Fairy.
AGF: No problem. Just don’t tell Alyssa I’m here! I’d be in SO much trouble.
E: Mum’s the word. Alright, so let’s get right to it: what was it like when Nafaria and Alyssa had their gigantic fight?
AGF: Awful. The rest of the fairies were so worried. Nafaria had been our queen for an entire year – and she had done a good job, truthfully. Sure, some were afraid of her…but the rest of us really respected her abilities and powers.
E: What did you think when Alyssa woke up?
AGF: Well, obviously we were happy. And full of questions. We were kind of shocked when Alyssa accused Nafaria of purposely hurting her. I mean, Nafaria WANTED the throne…but I don’t know if she would’ve stooped to such a level. But then, it’s possible.
E: Don’t you think it’s weird that Nafaria didn’t help Alyssa right after the accident?
AGF: Yes, of course. Everyone thought that very same thing. She should’ve brought Alyssa back…or called for help. Nafaria said she panicked and she knew it would look bad if people found out what really happened. I think that when she healed Alyssa, she meant to keep her alive but asleep forever.
E: You don’t think she wanted her to wake up?
AGF: Honestly? No.
E: So it sounds like all the fairies sided with Alyssa.
AGF: Pretty much. And those that didn’t, followed Nafaria into the dark side of the forest. She became their queen.
E: Was anyone divided between the two?
AGF: Lots of us! We were devoted to Nafaria, but if Alyssa’s accusations were true – we couldn’t possibly take Nafaria’s side.
E: Since all this happened, Nafaria has honed her evil powers – don’t you think that indicates what kind of fairy she really is?
AGF: I think that anyone can be pushed to be a certain way. I’m not sure Nafaria was always like that; but she definitely isn’t nice now.
E: Thanks for the interview – I really appreciate it.
AGF: Not a problem.

Yesterday, I printed the first half of my interview with Meriwether St. Bernard. Today, I proudly present the conclusion!

E: So Nafaria wasn’t REALLY upset about the disappearance of her best friend?
M: No, not really. She said she wanted to find Alyssa, of course, but…let’s just say she didn’t lead the search parties. She stayed home and continued practicing her spells.  That was frowned upon by many of the fairies.
E: How did they find Alyssa?
M: It took awhile – three days, I think. At the end of the second day, they were very close to calling off the search and declaring Nafaria the queen – but Nafaria encouraged them to continue looking. Sure enough, on the third day, they found Alyssa. She wasn’t conscious, and she looked absolutely terrible. They weren’t sure she was going to make it.
E: How did they save her?
M: Nafaria did. She used a very strong spell to make Alyssa well – there was only one minor side effect – she stayed asleep for an entire year.
E: What?!
M: It’s true. And in that year, Nafaria was crowned Queen of the Good Fairies. She was a very strict queen – and many were afraid of her. Her powers were unlike anything anyone had seen before.
E: What happened when Alyssa woke up?
M: That was when things got very, very interesting. I don’t actually think Nafaria knew how long Alyssa would remain asleep. What I do know is that she was SHOCKED to see Alyssa arrive at her castle. And that’s when the fight happened. Alyssa flew in, shouting that Nafaria had no right to be queen – that she was bad, through and through.
E: What did she mean by that?
M: Well, the elder fairy council sat down with Alyssa and she told them her story – according to her, Nafaria and she had been practicing their spells. Nafaria had said “Look at this!” and Alyssa was knocked to the ground. She couldn’t move; she was in so much pain. She begged Nafaria to help her, but Nafaria just flew off, leaving Alyssa to fall into unconsciousness.
E: Nafaria tried to  –
M: Well, don’t jump to any conclusions yet. When Nafaria was brought in front of the council, she admitted to hitting Alyssa with a spell – by accident. And when she saw how hurt Alyssa was, she said she panicked. She knew the rescuers would find her, and she spent those days researching spells that would help save her friend when she was brought back.
E: That sounds a little hard to believe.
M: Remember: they were BEST friends. Wouldn’t you feel bad if you hurt PJ? Mightn’t you panic?
E: Well…this isn’t about us! It’s about Alyssa and Nafaria. What happened next?
M: Alyssa (and the fairy council) had a hard time believing Nafaria’s story. Alyssa called Nafaria the ‘worst fairy in Webkinz World’ and demanded that she be removed as queen. Nafaria said that Alyssa was making stuff up; because it was the only way she’d ever get near the throne.  They had a gigantic argument that resulted in both fairies yelling and screaming at each other. The fairy council had a vote, and it turns out that most fairies believed Alyssa. Nafaria was dethroned and Alyssa was made the fairy queen.
E: I bet Nafaria wasn’t very happy.
M: Not in the least. When Nafaria left the castle, she zapped Alyssa as she walked past. Alyssa exploded in anger, and told Nafaria that she never wanted to see her again, and that they were officially enemies. Nafaria vanished to the dark side of the Magical Forest, and Alyssa led the good fairies. And that’s how it’s been, all these years.
E: Wow. Who do you think was telling the truth?
M: As I said before, only two really know what happened – Nafaria and Alyssa. I suggest you speak with them, dear.
