Well, readers, I hate to alarm you but my little brother Reid STILL has a runny nose. Obviously it was time to take some serious action. My mother didn’t seem to appreciate just how serious this is so I decided to take matters into my own hands. My mom asked me to keep an eye on Reid while she did some shopping so I took him to see Dr. Quack.

I put him in his stroller and we headed over to Dr. Quack’s office. As soon as we got there I noticed that, despite the face he was smiling and laughing Reid’s face was bright red. I knew he must have been really sick.

Dr. Quack was surprised to see me – my mom usually makes an appointment first, but I told him it was an emergency. I explained about the sniffles and then I pointed out that Reid’s cheeks were bright red. Dr. Quack said that my cheeks were red too and that it probably had more to do with us walking out in the cold than with being sick.

But he agreed to look at Reid. He took his temperature and looked in his ears and his eyes and his mouth (Reid kept giggling – poor baby didn’t realize how sick he was) and he listened to Reid’s heart with a stethoscope.

Afterward he said that I was a very responsible sister to take such good care of my little brother. Then he went in his desk drawer and pulled out a handful of what looked like lollipops. He told me that they were special medicine for Reid, and that I could let him suck on these special lollipops for a few minutes each day as long as I made sure to brush his teeth afterward. He said in a few days Reid should be as good as new. Then he winked at me and said he would see me at my next check-up.

See, readers? I knew it. I knew there was something really wrong with Reid. Thank goodness I took him to the doctor and got the special medicine. I don’t know what is in these lollipops but they must really be making Reid feel better because he seems to just love them.

It’s Roberta again and I have some very bad news to report.  Remember the other day I told you about how Reid had a runny nose? Well, last night, I was sitting outside his bedroom door (just in case he needed me) and I heard him cough!

I told my mother we had to take him straight to Dr. Quack. She went into Reid’s room and checked on him. Despite the worrying cough I had just heard, he seemed to be sleeping soundly, but his nose did sound very congested when he breathed.

But do you know what my mother said? She told me I had to relax! She said he probably just coughed a bit because his nose was stuffed up and he had to breathe through his mouth. You know, I thought my mom was a wonderful mother, but I am really questioning her parenting skills right now. I mean, first it’s the sniffles, now it’s a cough! What next?

Oh my gosh! The most awful thing has happened! I went into my little brother Reid’s room this morning to bring him downstairs for breakfast and he has a runny nose! Isn’t that terrible? I rushed right down to get my mom and she told me to calm down, and that everyone gets the sniffles once in a while. How can she be so carefree? Reid is just little! This could be serious!

After breakfast I put him right back to bed and made sure he stayed there. He was getting really fussy and whiny so he must have been really sick. My mom says it was because he was bored being stuck in his bed and that I should play with him, but I’m sure it was because he was sick. A sick baby needs rest, not play!

I called my grandma and told her she has to make a big batch of chicken soup. My mom says Reid doesn’t like chicken soup, but I have to convince him to take it! I just want him to get better!

So today was the big day. My little brother Reid and I headed back to the Clubhouse to get our photo taken with Santakinz. I was really nervous. I mean, this was my last chance to get this present for my parents. If this photo didn’t turn out I would have to think of a completely new idea for my parents’ gift and Christmas is only a few days away!

We arrived at the Clubhouse and there was a line-up to sit on Santakinz’ lap. I waited in line and Reid seemed pretty calm, but he hadn’t actually spotted the big guy yet, so I wasn’t sure how he’d react. As we got closer to Santakinz, Reid seemed really enthralled by all of the glittery decorations. Then suddenly it was our turn. There was Santakinz right in front of us. When Reid spotted him, his eyes grew really big and I thought “Uh oh!” I was sure he was going to cry. But then Reid started giggling and actually reached out to Santakinz. I was so relieved!

I think my plan to desensitize Reid by showing him all those images of Santakinz had actually worked! Santakinz had gone from being a big scary guy with a beard to being the hero of all those books and movies we had watched.

I think the photo turned out pretty well in the end, don’t you?

Okay, so since my plan to have Reid’s photo taken with Santakinz didn’t go so well the first time, I had an idea. Every single day I have been reading Reid every Christmas book, showing him every Christmas card, and playing him every Christmas movie that has Santakinz in it so that he’ll get used to Santakinz and we can take this photo without him crying. So far, so good. He seems to enjoy all the Christmas stories and for some reason he’s not scared of a picture of Santakinz. I just hope that when I take him back to the Clubhouse, he can handle the real thing!

Roberta here. I really love the surprises of Secret Santakinz gift exchanges so I was kind of bored by who I got. I mean, don’t get me wrong, I really like Alex Tiger (he’s super smart and nice) but what’s a bit boring is that I already know what to get him! A test tube set that you can make little experiments with. He told me just the other day that he was saving up for one. But even if it’s not too exciting, I’m glad I can get him something he really wants!

So remember how I was feeling pretty miserable the other day because my nana and papa were spending all their time with Reid? Well, my grandmother realized there was something wrong…and she took me out for a hot chocolate and a donut. We talked about how hard it is to have a little brother around, and how sometimes he seems to get ALL the attention. She told me that she often felt a little jealous of her younger sister (my great-aunt). I was surprised to hear that, but nana said it’s just something that older siblings feel sometimes. She said it doesn’t mean I don’t love Reid, but just that occasionally I kind of wish I could get the sort of attention he does.

She also said that she and papa were going to take me out to see a play, and have a special dinner at a restaurant, just the three of us.

And when we got back to her house? Somehow it bothered me a lot less when everyone said how adorable it was when Reid spat carrot baby food across the kitchen.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Hey everyone. Roberta here in East Webkinz World, visiting my grandparents. Normally I LOVE seeing nana and papa…but this time? This time it’s alllll about my little brother Reid. Since we arrived, no one has talked about anything else. It’s just “Reid this” and “Reid that” and “Oh, isn’t it so cute how Reid makes faces? Look at him crawl! Reid is the BEST!”
Reid is not the best at anything! He’s just a baby. He’s not even very exciting.

And then there’s me, sitting alone in the corner, hoping someone will take notice and talk to me.

So far? No one has.

I guess I just can’t compare to the cuteness of my baby brother. And don’t get me wrong, I think Reid IS very sweet. But who is more interesting? A baby or a creative, brilliant young lady like myself?
I think the choice is pretty clear. Someone just needs to tell my family that.

Dear Diary,

I have never (NEVER) been angrier at Ms. Stripes than I am right now. She told us who was cast in which role for the Thanksgiving pageant. And guess what I am? The lead? Noooo! The supporting actress? Noooo! I don’t even have any LINES. Why is that? Because I’m a tree! A tree! Cowabelle, on the other hand, is the lead. She gets to dress up like a pilgrim and sing and dance and do all sorts of other things. Meanwhile, I get to get splinters from my costume. I cannot believe Ms. Stripes! She is so unfair. And you know what she said, when I went up to her after class and asked her why I was a tree? “Roberta, it’s important that you learn to share the spotlight. You can’t ALWAYS be the lead, you know.” And I said “But Cowabelle has been the lead a lot as well. Why does SHE get to do it again now?” And Mrs. Stripes just said something about Cowabelle suiting the part, and for the Christmas pageant maybe I could have a more prominent role.

Know what? I’m not even going to be IN the Thanksgiving pageant. This tree is on strike.
