Roberta’s Bad Day

Dear Diary,

I have never (NEVER) been angrier at Ms. Stripes than I am right now. She told us who was cast in which role for the Thanksgiving pageant. And guess what I am? The lead? Noooo! The supporting actress? Noooo! I don’t even have any LINES. Why is that? Because I’m a tree! A tree! Cowabelle, on the other hand, is the lead. She gets to dress up like a pilgrim and sing and dance and do all sorts of other things. Meanwhile, I get to get splinters from my costume. I cannot believe Ms. Stripes! She is so unfair. And you know what she said, when I went up to her after class and asked her why I was a tree? “Roberta, it’s important that you learn to share the spotlight. You can’t ALWAYS be the lead, you know.” And I said “But Cowabelle has been the lead a lot as well. Why does SHE get to do it again now?” And Mrs. Stripes just said something about Cowabelle suiting the part, and for the Christmas pageant maybe I could have a more prominent role.

Know what? I’m not even going to be IN the Thanksgiving pageant. This tree is on strike.

I understand. I’ve tried out for choir solos a ton and this girl with an annoying voice gets them all.

I’d rather be a tree in a play than not at all since I only got to be in one play my whole life!

If my memory is correct, Cowabelle was an evil minion in the Three Musketeers play; Roberta was not in that play at all. Cowabelle was in the top 5 of Kinzville Sings; Roberta did not make it to the final 7. Cowabelle threw a tantrum when she wasn’t selected as Queen of the Easter Parade (the honor went to Millie Pig who then bailed on the job, leaving Cowabelle to fill in for her). Cowabelle played the part of Queen Cowalor in the Robin Hood play, while Roberta played a castle guard. Cowabelle wrote, directed and played Queen Cowabelle in the play at Camp. Cowabelle also wrote and stared in her own skit with Dacey Bryn and Roberto at the Camp Talent Show. It seems to me that Cowabelle gets picked for plays and other typed of performances much more often than Roberta. I’m beginning to understand how Roberta feels.
