In case you hadn’t already guessed, the VERY first Webkinz Sock pet ever to be released was the virtual Sock Monkey! The Sock Monkey was released in 2010.
But did you know that the Sock Monkey could’ve looked quite different? Based on traditional sock monkeys, the original concept art for the Sock Monkey actually had buttons for eyes!
It was decided that giving the Sock Monkey proper eyes would give the pet more personality and the design was revised.
The original design also had a different color. The first mock-up of the Sock Monkey was a brown sock with cream and red accents.
In the end, the color of this virtual pet was changed to grey and we think it’s absolutely adorable.
So adorable in fact, that a few years later, in 2014, a plush version of the Sock Monkey was released.
To avoid any confusion the plush was named the Knit Sock Monkey and it was joined that same year by the plush Knit Sock Dog!
