Choose Your Own Story – Booger Goes to Dr. Quack

Booger felt bad for Fluffington – really he did. But he was also starting to panic about the foreign substance that had oozed out of the disk all over him. He knew he had to get to Dr. Quack’s immediately and find out what this stuff was and what it might do to him. Booger took one last look over his shoulder at Fluffington weeping by the side of the road and kept on in the direction of Dr. Quack’s office.

When Booger got to the office, there was a large crowd in the waiting room. It seemed like everyone in Kinzville had chosen today for a checkup. But Booger knew he couldn’t wait – he rushed past the others and threw open the door to Dr. Quack’s examining room.

“Booger!” exclaimed the doctor angrily. “What is the meaning of barging in here like this? I’m in the middle of an exam!”

“Doctor, I’m sorry but it’s an emergency!” Booger cried.

Dr. Quack took one look at Booger’s panicked state and the black slime covering his hands and clothing and realized that the boy wouldn’t interrupt him in the middle of an appointment unless the situation were serious. He politely asked his patient to wait outside and told Booger to hop up on his examining table.

“Do you want to explain to me what this is all about?” he asked Booger gravely.

Booger hesitated – he really didn’t want to divulge his discovery of the object in his backyard but he knew his life might depend on it. He told Dr. Quack everything in a rush. When Booger had finished his story, the doctor looked at him skeptically. Then, with a cotton swab, he wiped some of the gunk off Booger’s hand, held it up to his nose and took a sniff.

“Booger,” he said. “This object you discovered – it wasn’t by any chance a round silver disk with colored marks on the side, was it?”

Booger was shocked. “How did you know?”

“Well, it just so happens,” Doctor Quack began, “that earlier today Fluffington was driving through your neighborhood when he hit a curb and one of his hubcaps flew off and disappeared.” Booger’s jaw fell open. “And those marking on the side? They’re made up of a fortune’s worth of precious gems. Fluffington is beside himself trying to find it. And,” Doctor Quack continued, “it just so happens that this black stuff all over you – is plain old motor oil.”

Booger couldn’t believe it. He hadn’t discovered a flying saucer at all – he had found Fluffington’s missing hubcap. No wonder the St Bernard had been so upset earlier. Booger didn’t know what to do. Would Fluffington be upset when he found out that Booger had pried open his priceless hubcap with a screwdriver? Or would he reward Booger for its recovery? Or… Booger thought to himself. That hubcap WAS in his backyard. Wasn’t it finders keepers? With the fortune in jewels embedded in the hubcap, Booger would have all the funds he’d need to build his rocket.

Doctor Quack peered at Booger. “I trust you’ll do the right thing, young man.” He said sternly.
