Choose Your Own Story – Booger Turns On the Robot
Booger turned away from the window and looked back at his robot. He was just too eager to try out his new creation. Whatever was in the garden could wait for another day.
The robot sat on Booger’s bed. It looked harmless, its silver features punctuated by a pair of dull, green, bulbous eyes and a thin slot where its mouth would be. Booger plopped down next to the contraption and reached for the power button. He was certain that his instructors at Space Camp had been mistaken about his modifications. Surely they could only improve the robot’s interactive features – not render it dangerous.
As he flicked on the switch, the robot’s eyes started glowing a bright emerald green. A low humming sound emitted from it and as Booger watched, the robot slowly turned its head toward him. It appeared to be looking at him.
Suddenly, the robot lifted one arm and a thin beam of yellow light shot out and hit the wall behind Booger, leaving a smoking hole in the wallpaper.
“Whoa!” cried Booger, dropping the robot on the floor. “That was NOT supposed to happen!”
The robot lay on the floor, twisting back and forth trying to right itself, like an upturned turtle on its back. Yellow sparks shot from its arm and smoke began pouring from the top of its head.
Booger stood staring at the robot in shock. He stretched his arm toward it, hoping to reach the power switch and shut it off. As he reached toward it, the robot seemed to sense his presence and twisted toward him, shooting beams of yellow light in his direction. Booger ducked out of the way and looked over his shoulder to see a sizzling tear in his bedroom drapes.
Booger knew he had to do something. Maybe he should go and try to find Goober but that would mean leaving the robot alone in his room – and he wasn’t sure he should risk that. Maybe there was some way he could disable the robot himself.
