Feedback Friday: What Communal Contest Challenges Would You Like?

feedbackfriday

Welcome to the weekly edition of Feedback Friday, where we ask a question and look to our wonderful Webkinz members for answers that we will use to make Webkinz World better. This is your chance to influence the way that Webkinz World evolves!

This week, we launched the Communal Contest feature which challenges players to work together to overcome a goal in order to win a sweet prize. We’ve got a bunch of challenges lined up of varying difficulties, including some that require everyone to play a certain game to earn a large number of points and others that require sending KinzPost gifts, but we want to hear what kind of challenges you think the community can finish.

This week’s question is…

What Communal Contest challenges would you like to see?

Would you like a challenge to collect a certain number of gems? What about a challenge to plant a certain number of saplings in the Caring Valley? What challenges do you think the community could finish? Remember: the harder the challenge, the better the rewards! Give us some feedback by commenting now!

  4. blazethecat says:

i think the prize should be an estore pet or a piece of clothing from the kinzstyle shop instead of a w shop item

I totally agree with Silver girl!

I totally agree with what most of the people say- the prize should be better! Not W-shop! It should be estore (because I REALLY want estore!!!). I think the goal shouldn’t be so high because the last time we did it, we weren’t even half way there!

Reading the comments on this page leads me to believe that people are not very concerned with the idea of working together with others to achieve a common goal, or with what kind of contest may be offered. It seems that all anyone cares about is the prize. The vast majority of the comments have nothing to do with the original question asked. Instead, the responses focus on: “What’s in it for me?” “If the prize isn’t good enough, I am not going to work with the rest of the community to reach the goal.”

I think that the first contest was a good concept, although the goal was set too high. Point totals on a certain video game, with a reasonable goal, make good communal contests. I would also suggest a Kinzville Park clean-up contest with the goal of a specified amount of litter to be picked up. While the idea of planting a certain number of Caring Valley saplings (as mentioned in the original post) is nice because it helps in the real world, please bear in mind that not everyone can just run out and buy a new Webkinz whenever they feel like it, so not everyone would have the opportunity to participate. Another idea is to answer a number of Quizzy’s questions (or score a certain goal at Quizzy’s), although some players would be locked out of this contest because they have completed all of the questions. Sending KinzPost is limited because not everyone has a large “Friends List” (or any Friends at all). A contest based on cash earned at the Employment Office might encourage people to try harder jobs, which will help them in the end.

A good communal contest would be one that is available for anyone to participate, does not require an extra real-world, real-cash purchase, has an attainable goal, and, ideally, makes people want to participate for the sake of participation in a group task rather than for the prize. The prizes *shouldn’t* matter, but unfortunately, that seems to be the focus of the whole thing for most players.

I don’t know what can be done to change the attitude from prize-oriented to goal oriented, though.

I think that the prize generally should be a W-shop item or Kinzcash. This is because once the contest is properly calibrated so that the community is able to win it say half of the time, there will be too many items flooding out of the contest to support anything more valuable.

I think that the community contests should require the community to do whatever activity they normally do at an increase of between 25% and 100%. So if normally the community earns a million points in Polar Plunge over a weekend, ask us to earn a million and a quarter. Then give us a moderate reward.
