Sparky’s Unhappy Thanksgiving

You know, normally I LOVE Thanksgiving. It’s usually my mom and dad and Uncle Arte and I at our house, eating lots of delicious foods (especially pumpkin pie) and celebrating together.
Since my parents are leaving this year for a vacation (WITHOUT me), I’m really NOT looking forward to Thanksgiving. My Uncle Arte keeps trying to tell me that we’re going to have fun, and that he has all this great stuff planned…but it’s not the same. I bet he doesn’t even know how to make a pie.

I invited Stoogles to join us for part of our ‘dinner’ (probably pizza or something). Maybe he’ll make Thanksgiving a little more fun this year.

Uh oh, spaghetti O’s! Okay Sparky, I know what will make Thanksgiving AWESOME! Okay, just to let you know, food is NOT what makes Thanksgiving fun. It is the joy, the happiness, and, of course, being thankful! Now, let’s plan the easy stuff. About the pumpkin pie, switch it up. Buy some pumpkin bread mix and try baking it together! This way, you’ll learn something new and have fun! Okay, we got that down! :)

Sparky, I’ll bet you’re going to be surprised at what a cool Thanksgiving you’ll have! Uncle Arte came through on your birthday, right?

Hey Sparky, have you tried talking to your uncle about your worries? You don’t have to tell him you think he’s a bad cook – after all do you really know that he is? Try asking what the menu for Thanksgiving is going to be, and if it is pizza, ask if you could go to a restaurant or maybe see if the three of you can go to a friend’s house. You could try asking your mom to teach you how to make a pie so you could make your own for Thanksgiving. I learned how to make apple pie when I was seven. Holidays are hard when our traditions change, but sometimes the changes bring great memories.

Thanksgiving isn’t about food, it is about spending time with your family. even if your mom or dad aren’t there, it could be a nice Thanksgiving. Plus you never know the future, Arte might make delicious pie.
