Tough News for Sparky

You guys will never, ever, ever believe what happened to me today. I’m so embarrassed …and kind of mad. And it’s all because of my parents. We were having dinner and my mom said, “Sparky, we have something we want to tell you about Thanksgiving this year.” And I TRIED to pretend I didn’t know, but I blurted out “I know! We’re going to the Tropical Island on holiday! I can’t wait!” And my parents looked at each other and my dad cleared his throat and said, “Well, we’re not ALL going. I’m going. Your mom is going. But you’re not.”

And I just stared at him. I couldn’t believe it.

And then he said, “How did you know about the holiday, anyway?” And we got into a discussion about eavesdropping and how sometimes it can give you the wrong idea about something.

No kidding.

My mom said she was sorry, but she and my dad were about to celebrate their fifteenth wedding anniversary, and this was their special trip.

So I get to stay with my Uncle Arte for Thanksgiving. And Uncle Arte is NOT a great cook like my mom. So we’ll probably end up having frozen turkey dinners and a soggy pumpkin pie from the W Shop.

And I guess I’ll have to tell my friends that I’m NOT going on holiday. They’ll never let me live it down.

This might just be the worst Thanksgiving in the history of Kinzville.

I’m sorry, Sparky. I wish your parents could have waited until after Thanksgiving for their anniversary celebration, but there may be a good reason they couldn’t. Your friends will understand and sympathize. That’s what friends do. Thanksgiving is about being thankful, and I’ll bet you’ll find a whole bunch of friends you’re thankful for.

I knew this would happen but really, his parents should’ve at least stayed for Thanksgiving.

And this is why you should never eavesdrop. I guess Sparky learnt his lesson. If I were his friend, I’d never let him hear the end of it!

That would be really mean. Sparky fells bad enough, his friends shouldn’t make him feel worse.

I have to agree with you. While his friends should be nice because he just found out his parents were leaving for Thanksgiving, they should also give him a kinda hard time because he did eavsdrop. I do feel sorry for him though. :( ~~Tanglefire
