I don’t understand what the difference between the $6.99 and $8.99 passes are
The $6.99 one unlocks the premium tier, so you get those prizes when you earn the Season points needed to redeem them. The $8.99 one comes with Season points so the first few are ready to redeem as soon as you purchase the pass.
