Let’s Celebrate International Cat Day!
In honor of International Cat Day, we’re pulling back the curtain on the secret lives of one of Kinzville’s most iconic felines. Inspired by Thomas McNamee’s brilliant book, The Inner Life of Cats, here’s a little look into the life of a Cheeky Cat named Cleo
WINDOW
Cleo stepped onto her porch in the sweltering heat. Within seconds, her fur had frizzed and her paw pads were spicy.
“I might be cool,” she thought, “but I’m no match for this heat.”
She retreated indoors to plan her cozy, air-conditioned day when—THUMP.
A noise hit the window.
BIRD
Cleo cracked the window. “HELLO?” she called.
“Hello!” a small voice replied from below.
In the grass stood a Canada Goose, hopping from foot to foot.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“I’m okay! My name is Jacques. I live next door—but I got locked out. It’s so hot out here. Can I come in?”
Cleo hesitated. She wasn’t about to invite a stranger inside. “I don’t want to be rude,” she thought. “But this is odd.”
“HELLO?” Jacques squawked. “HELLO? PLEASE HELP ME!”
He wasn’t leaving.
SHOES
“WHAT DO YOU WANT?” she finally asked.
“If I can’t come in,” Jacques pleaded, “can you at least give me some water for my feet? They’re burning!”
“Your feet?”
Cleo ran to her closet, grabbed a pair of sneakers, soaked them in water, and tossed them out the window.
“PUT THESE ON!”
Jacques squeezed his webbed feet into the shoes. Instant relief.
“Thank you!” he beamed. “I’m going to wear these everywhere.”
“Glad I could help,” Cleo said, shutting her window. “…Weird day.”
She returned to her nook with coffee and her bullet journal.
GAGGLE
Fifteen minutes later—KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK.
She opened the door. A gaggle of geese stood before her.
“Are you Cleo?” one of them asked.
“…Yes.”
“We need shoes.”
