Before our 3D artists create an item to be used in Webkinz World, a concept artist will make a sketch to be used as a reference image. Here are 5 concept artist sketches that inspired some of your favorite Christmas themed items:
This delicious looking gingerbread house was one of last year’s Countdown to Christmas prizes. The concept artist’s sketch and the actual item are almost identical:
The Santakinz Toy Train was last year’s final gift for the Countdown to Christmas. The log cabin that’s featured in the concept artist’s sketch was a nice touch, but was not included in the final item:
The Town Square Music stand is currently availble in the WShop. As you can see, it was decided that a music book should be added to the stand after the original concept was created:
The concept art for the Festive Winter Sapling (also available in the WShop this year) is almost identical to the final item:
The peppermint candies overflowing from the Gingerbread Cabin Building Kit were a nice touch added by the concept artist:
This is fascinating! You have great concept artists on board. More behind-the-scenes articles would be really interesting. I often wonder about the people who come up with these ideas for new items. They must love their jobs, they’re certainly creative and make really cool things for our pets to enjoy! Thanks to all. Now, carry on…..
Wow. I know good art when I see it. That’s it right there!
Wow. I’m speechless, I know great art when I see it and that’s it right there!

Wow. Now that is amazing :D
those are soooooooooooo cooool!!!
WOW, these are some really cool sketches, hope to see more.
Those are really neat! Perhaps I could do something along those lines, I’ll have to try it sometime. I mainly do house layouts, views of interior rooms, things like that. Today I worked on the interior view of a closet. Not that exciting, but everybody says I’m nutty anyway. :) I wonder what medium they used? Looks like maybe some pastels………. Hmm, I don’t work with those very often. I do have some sort of Asian\maybe Indian Tiger I made using pastel Pencils. Its not all that bad, maybe I should submit some stuff to the share center, and see what happens. Hmm, maybe a sketch like the ones above, of a new item they should make…? Possibly, let me know what you think!
Looking at it closer I don’t think it’s pastels anymore……………………………………. It has the soft chalky colors though……………….. Maybe its a mixed medium drawing……. Mike, I saw you were answering some questions, and its hard to tell in these pictures what exact art supplies they used… (pastels, watercolors, acrylics, ect.) If you know could you let me in on it…… :) I would like to try some concept sketches!
