You’re invited to participate in Persephone’s Design A Dog Contest! There’s a black and white Webkinz puppy that needs a makeover! Submit your own design and, if you get chosen by Persephone and her Webkinz team, your design will be turned into a virtual Webkinz Pet!

- We can’t accept submissions with company logos, or sports team emblems.

I am not entering. Why? Because I would want a plush of the pet, AND because there are too many pattern puppies. We don’t need another one.
I agree about the patterned puppies. I am getting tired of them and wish that Ganz would be more creative rather than issuing the same dog, different pattern every single month. I love dogs but I won’t buy any more of this type. There are plenty of real dogs that haven’t been made as Webkinz yet and lots of other animals.
I WILL enter because I have a couple of ideas that I really like. Plus, personally, I like the pattern puppies. I think they’re cute!

I do agree with this and patterned animals are among my least favorite but show some respect! It is hard to come up with ideas. They can only please so many people. I’m sure many others would love to see new cats, monkeys , frogs, bears, etc. Be patience and I’m sure it’ll happen eventually. Besides, we now have the Enchanted Elephant and Colorblock Monkey.
Not to mention we also have the Grumpy Cat. Yes, they create more dogs than any other Webkinz but dogs are a very popular animal. I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t love a good dog or two.
You know if you do enter and you do win after you get your virtual pet you can just go on ebay and get a plush without a code.

Since a plush won’t be made, if you win you could just make the plush your self. Just go to a fabric store, select the patterns and colors of fabric you need, and sit at a sewing machine and see what you can do. I’ve never made a dog before, but I have made several bunnies and pillows. It’s accually not that hard.

i know its horrible that they don’t make plushes.
Plushes take very long to create, manufacture and ship. The plush that come out have already been done and ready for shipping almost an entire year before players see them on shelves. So we can’t really make a plush of the contest pet, or it will take too long to put it in the game. ;)

I just clicked on download colouring page and printed it out some special way.It came out black and white but I could still colour it.Then after I was done colouring,I scanned it,Dragged it to iPhoto and cropped it because there was a big space.Then I went to ShareCenter and put it in the contest.

Thanks Matt WebkinzFriends! :D So if I was to try Digital Art, how would I do it? Do I need to download a app? I am on a Mac so if I have to download an app i’d have to get it off of the App Store and what would be a good one to use? :D

You can just download the template (it’s probably PNG/JPG etc.) and just open it with an art program like Adobe Illustrator.
Would Windows Paint work? ;)

If I wanted to design a dog on the computer what exactly would I do? (I am using an acer computer)
Well, if you don’t know, it’s probably best to just print the template and colour it by hand. But there are tons of art programs. You can use something very simple like Paint (all computers come with this), or something more professional like Adobe Illustrator (like we use at Ganz) > but that costs money. Just search online for some options, I suppose.

Yes, I think so.
Yes, you can color it on the computer using something like Gimp, Pixlr.com or Photoshop.

You print the picture that comes up. Just right click and say either “copy” and paste it into a word document, or save the picture and print it. Hope this helps! :)

Matt – you are One Cool Dude!! I think I speak for all when I say thanks for your assistance and advice on things. It’s apparent you have a very cool job with Ganz… does Ganz provide any sort of tours of where you guys work so fans can see more behind the scenes action? And last question – I had submitted a story for the Rockerz Pet Contest, a while ago now – where we were asked to write a story on how the Rockerz Tour went… but I never saw an announcement or posting for a winner for that contest… is that Still pending? or did I most likely miss the posting? Thanks again Matt!!!
Why thank you! Yeah, it’s a cool place to work. I’m not sure if we offer tours … I don’t think I’ve ever heard about players randomly showing up at our door step haha. We have had play testing happen here though, and have met some players through that. I’m not sure about the Rockerz Pet contenst; I’m not too in tune with the contests that happen on Webkinz since I’m more focused on Webkinz Friends and the game design stuff – but I’ll ask around haha.
Cool thanks for the info! The Rockerz contest was last summer I think, or before that even – but I’m sure there were a lot of fun entries, just hoped I could have won or read some of the other submissions… As for the tours – the Road Trip is a really fun event for us players to interact more with you guys! I’ve always enjoyed taking tours of historic buildings or landmarks or even factories and companies behind the scenes. Something to think about? One last suggestion… anyone agree that Matt should be presented with his own “area” on here for Q&A… like a separate blog or something… again.. Just an idea! LOL – Have a good weekend everyone!!!

Matt, you work for WEBKINZ!?! Thee ACTUAL Webkinz??!?! So do you get like before-time info on new petz and stuff? Are you like a designer or something? If so, I have a few questions…. #1: Why are there SOOOO many Graffiti Pups? If you’re not familiar with the term, Graffiti Pups, are the pups that just have printed fabrics, like the doughnut puppy, the cake puppy, the texting puppy, ect. So why? I know that most players prefer the real life critters, like different dog breeds, wild animals, horses, you know? 2nd question… I’m not sure if you have insight on this but, figured I ask… why is Ganz retiring so many pets? And it seems like most of the prizes are pretty crumby. Easy-to-fins Curio Shop junk, party pack food, and stuff you can make yourself? It’s pretty lame. Now for #3 Please take suggestions! Yep, I work at the actual Webkinz haha. You can hear me in the third episode in Podkinz. And yep, we get before-time info of the pets … we’re the ones who have to come up with them and their PSI/PSF’s. We even have a ‘vault’ here that has all the upcoming plush toy’s all lined up by month. ;)
Anyway, to answer your questions:
1. Pets follow a template for manufacturing and the easiest ones to do are the printed fabric ones, since they’re on the body of the pet. Things that hair or are more realistic (like the signatures) require a lot more work when mass producing. So I suppose that’s the reason behind it.
2. Ganz retire pets that are not being manufactured anymore. Even though it seems like they’ve been happening for a long time, the reality is that the pets that are being announced have already stopped being made by Ganz. We’re just announcing them one at a time. The reason for that is obviously business reasons, based on sales of specific pets and a decision being made whether more of that pet is worth producing.

I’m not sure when you posted this, but the contest is over. As for the question (for curiosity sake), no – nothing that is a character from another movie is allowed because of copyrights.

Ganz only picks one winner who’s pet will be designed. I don’t think it’s a matter of being fair … realistically nobody can honestly expect Ganz to just make everyone’s pet for them, and some of them may not even be (legally) allowed. This is also a contest, and that’s how contests work.

I’m not sure what you mean? We haven’t picked the winner yet for this contest. If you mean you’ve sent in drawings before as fan mail, then we would have seen it (we look at them all) and the fact we didn’t make it a real pet doesn’t mean we didn’t like it. We get a lot of submissions, haha.
Matt, I have a question, if someone submits an entry in the share center (let’s say it’s legal and would require no copyright or anything like that) will it always be posted and approved or not? ( I’ve sent in pictures before of my pets and I got an e-mail saying they were reviewed, but I didn’t see them in the gallery or under “my pictures” , if that were to happen to me again for this contest, would my entry be valid? Thanks. :mrgreen: :lol:
It just takes someone to go through them and manually approve them. But there’s not anyone on hand all the time to do that, so it might take a while to even get up. The fortunate thing is that when Ganz reviews the pets, they’ll be looking through the full submission list, not just what’s shown on the Share Center, so it’ll be seen regardless.

Hi, yep I work at Ganz! Hello! I’m not sure what software one would use to make a movie without having to film their screen with a camera (that would look bad). You could definitely search on Google for software that will record your screen/microphone, there has to be free software out there somewhere.
What do you do at Ganz?
I work on Webkinz Friends mainly. I’ve helped on other projects like creating levels for Goober’s Atomic Adventures and designing new arcade games etc. :)

Haha, that might be a little much to do in 3D. But I could see that working as a 2D Platformer which we don’t really have in Webkinz right now. Sounds cool!

Maybe what you could do is have people pay Ganz to make their drawing into a Webkinz plush and a virtual pet…. it would make a lot of money and people could design their own pet… I just think that would be cool!!! Oh and can you maybe suggest to the people to make days where non deluxe members can experience being a member and the advantages that come with it??? I just think that would be cool also….. please respond and my username is redheadedswimmer. btw, there is no period at the end of my username…. lolz
Hi! Yeah, the same thought actually occurred to the Creative team here while doing this contest too. Great minds think alike, eh? But realistically, it’s not a feasible thing to do. The material, and manufacturing costs to make a single pet vs. bulk manufacturing of a specific pets sold all around the world, isn’t really worth it. A lot of work goes into a single pet; so much so that the plush are actually created and ready a year in advance (we have a vault upstairs with the finished plush coming up … it’s cool!). I like the idea though, it would be really cool. :)
Hey Matt! I’ve spent almost all of my kinzcash trying to figure out the neon tutu. Could you give us a hint to what it may be? I reaaaallly want it! Its totally cool if you can’t tell us anything about it, but since nobody knows what it is I thought i should ask for a hint to what the clothing machine recipe for it is. If you know.

Also, the year the Chili Mazin’ Hamster was being bundled with the Deluze Membership, I got the membership but never got Chili.
Hey Matt, a few years ago i sent in ideas to GANZ in an email with the flying snake and the plagued pig. This was maybe in, 2009 or so. Then I saw the Winged Tiger, and it had the same color scheme as the flying snake I made (pale blue main fur, dark blue stripes, but maybe a few shades off). Would this possibly be just a coincidence or borrowing from my ideas? Thanks.
Oh boy, that’s way before I was working here. But I do know that the artists look for inspiration everywhere when they put together new things like pets, PSF’s and PSI’s etc. It’s entirely possible the artist who did that pet had seen the fan mail and was inspired by it, yeah. But it would be impossible to find out for sure. Haha.

They’re what comes with a pet when you adopt it. Pet Specific Item and Pet Specific Food is what they stand for. But of course, it’s just easier to say PSF/PSI. :)
Okay so Matt I have been deluxe for about a year now and my account is on deluxe renewal… This month I did not receive my gift package. I did not log in this month until now, did this affect it?

I have been drawing webkinz on paper that have NOT been on the webkinz website and i wanted to enter my seaweed sea horse but i have to draw a dog instead… mabye the next contest they can let anyone draw any animal they want even if it’s not a real webkinz plushie yet
