Freaky Forest Concept Drawings!

Hello Webkinz Newz readers, Ella McWoof here with a special report! Last month you voted for the Freaky Forest theme to be the new Halloween room theme. Our artists here at Webkinz headquarters have been hard at work and I am pleased to show you the first set of concept drawings! The 3D artists will use these drawings as a guide when actually creating the final items that will be available in the W-Shop in October.

Here’s a first look at a tree that will be part of this theme. If you have a name suggestion for any of these items, please feel free to leave them in the comments section below this article:

Next up is a beautiful stone owl that’s perched on top of a stone column:

This stone wall is meant to work with the columns. The idea here is that you can add a column to the edge of the wall to create a grand entrance to the forest:

Now here’s a floor tile that you can add to an outdoor room and take this Freaky Forest to the next level:

This cave looks like a lot of fun:

And here’s another look at that log bench that we showed you last month. I still think those eyes peeking out from inside the log are a great touch:

Please feel free to leave your feedback and name suggestions in the comments section below and stay tuned for the second set of concept drawings coming soon!

This has been Ella McWoof reporting for Webkinz Newz…

The first tree’s face looks like a creeper! You know, from Minecraft? So I would call it the Creepy Tree. I LOVE the stone owl! Will this be a seasonal only theme? If so, I need like 1,000 of those owls! They’re so cute!!!!! XD A shout out to the artist! That’s amazing! You guys rock! And another one to the 3D artists! It’s so cool how you can take drawings and make it a virtual item! You guys rock too! XD Have a great day everybody! XD

    • markg97 says:

I like where this theme is going, Ganz please NO deluxe items!

    • Pokekinz says:

Hey, cool, they used a few of my ideas! Alright…. 1. Wailing Willow Tree (or) Moaning Maple Tree (or) Unnerving Oak Tree 2. Observant Owl Column (or) Screech Owl Post 3. Ivy Stone Wall 4. Decomposing Duff (or) Frightening Forest Floor Tile 5. Howling Hollow (or) Haunted Hollow (or) Chilling Cavern 5. Alarming Log Chair (or) Gnarled Bole Seat (or) Twisted Trunk Bench (End) I hope some of these are good. (*^▿^)/

      • Fracktail says:

I really love the name “Screech Owl Post”. Even though a screech owl is a thing, the name still sounds eerie and befitting for Halloween. My other favorite of yours is the Twisted Trunk Bench because alliterations are my weakness. :P But all in all, every one of these names are awesome! I think they all fit pretty good.

      • BittyBit says:

Love your name suggestions, especially – Moaning Maple Tree!

        • Pokekinz says:

Thanks folks! \(^∇^)/ I use alliterations pretty much whenever I can when trying to come up with names for Webkinz items. I’ve noticed GANZ doing it pretty often, too. I like names that just have a ring to them. Although I guess pretty much everybody likes those. (◠‿◠)

          • Fracktail says:

I certainly do! Alliterations make everything better. GANZ does use them a lot for items, which is even better because the names you made sound awesome and authentic! Double-win! At any rate, I hope they pick your names for the items!

          • Pokekinz says:

Tank ooh! (*ゝω・)ノ I made sure to do a few, because…. You know…. Choice! Like so many flavors of ice cream, but the flavor is a name, which must roll of the tongue like… A…. Something that rolls off of something…….

          • Fracktail says:

Like a pencil rolls off of my desk when I’m trying to keep it still! Like water rolls off a ledge, recklessly cascading down with no regrets!! Like…a bread roll? I’m running out of ideas…

          • Pokekinz says:

Like…. Whitney’s Miltank using Roll Out on my Quilava! Repeatedly! Whitney. Quit it. Wait, is my Signature Arctic Hare named after a Gym Leader??……… No wait, never mind. I forgot, I named her after a random whit wolf that was once in my Animal Crossing town. :P That is totally relevant to what we were talking about.

          • Fracktail says:

Whitney’s Miltank is the most evil Pokémon, right up there with Ghetsis’s level 54 Hydreigon and Ash’s Pikachu. Also, cool you chose Cyndaquil! My favorite of that set is Totodile. (Speaking of starters, I’m not the only one who likes Bulbasaur, right? Everyone else chooses Charmander, so their rival gets Squirtle and poor Bulby gets nobody ;_;)

          • Pokekinz says:

I LOVE BULBASAAAAUUUR!!!! I named mine Gamera. :3 I’ll bet he’ll be really good in Y version. But I also want Charmander. Well, at least in Yellow version I can get all three. Also, of the basic starters in generation two, I like Totodile the best, but I prefer Typhlosion to Feraligatr. Typhlosion is like this big bear/anteater thing, it’s so cute! In my opinion. Although I prefer the original coloring of black fur on his back to the navy blue color. I kinda feel bad for Chikorita, it’s not really the best design… I like it, but….. Cyndaquil. By the way, how did Ghetis’ Hydreigon evolve? Did he just evolve cuz he told him to??

          • Fracktail says:

I had to look up what Gamera was, and I have to say, that’s a really clever name for a Bulbasaur! Typhlosion is epic, but as epic as a giant volcanic honey badger that is ON FIRE is, my heart will forever belong to my crocodilian compadres. Chocodile for the win! :D I’m not a huge fan of Chikorita at all, but my little sister likes it. I personally am not sure what it is, and I don’t think anyone else does either (Bulbapedia pretty much classifies it as “kind of a dinosaur”). I dunno, it just seems pretty bland compared to the other starters. But maybe I’m being overly harsh. Which are your favorite starters for each region? For me, it’s Bulbasaur, Totodile, Mudkip, Chimchar, Tepig, and Fennekin (although I like Chespin best out of the basic starters, I don’t like his evolutions). I do like the cadet blue on Typhlosion because it meshes well with the orange flames, but I have to admit the black on the original sprites are pretty darned cool. I have no idea how Ghetsis’s Hydreigon evolved. Maybe it’s similar to how Team Rocket forcibly evolved the shiny Gyarados in the Lake of Rage? I mean, I wouldn’t classify Ghetsis as the nicest trainer.

          • Pokekinz says:

Favorites for just the basic starters, or including the evolutions? Cuz I like Chespin better than Froakie, but I like Greninja better than Chesnaught. Weeeelll, I’m gonna list both. I hope you like reading lists! :D Okie, Generation 1: It’s tied between Charmander and Bulbasaur. :\ Although I think I like Charizard a bit better than Venusaur. But I think Venusaur has a better design, it’s one of those Pokémon where it’s kinda hard to tell what exactly it’s based off of, while Charizard is pretty much an orange dragon with a fiery tail. I think my opinion was very much influenced by Charizard from the Anime, though. ;P Generation 2: Totodile! He’s just so cute…. But, like I said, I prefer Typhlosion to Feraligatr. Generation 3. Treecko and Sceptile! A lot of people really like Mudkip and Blaziken, but I think Treecko and Sceptile both have awesome and well thought-out designs. A sun-bathing lizard that uses photo-synthesis… It just makes so much sense. (o.o) Plus he looks smug, and I like that. Generation 4: Chimchar and Infernape! Cuz they’re flaming monkeys. Which is awesome. Generation 5. Snivy and Serperior. I love snakes, and again, smug grass types, but this one is also vain! And, apparently some species of snakes have what appear to be legs, although they aren’t really used anymore. And then Snivy has legs and arms…. Servine less so…. And Serperior loses them. Which I wouldn’t be too happy about if I were them, but it still makes sense. Generation 6: Chespin and Greininja! Chespin is uber kawaii, and it looks like he’s wearing a hoodie. Greninja because I love frogs, and I’ve always been interested in ninjutsu. Also, I actually kinda like the tongue being like a scarf… Probably weird, and not particularly sanitary (also probably kinda makes it hard to eat) but I just do. “Hmm… Bit nippy outside…. I think I’ll wrap my tongue around my neck and make it a scarf.” And I guess forced evolution would make the most sense. Just Game Freak reinforcing that Ghetis is evil. :P And yeah, I agree with it looking like a dinosaur. Especially Meganium, like a giant flowery Sauropoda of some sort. Wow, this is long… Sorry, I can be really rambly about Pokémon. (“^▿^)> Oh, and Gamera is a cheesy Japanese monster based on a turtle who can fly around and breath fire and is basically a rip-off of Godzilla. I felt like naming mine that because I saw one named Godzilla and was like “Yeah… That’s a pretty good nickname… Saaaayyy, what if I named him after it’s firey turtle counterpart?!”

          • Fracktail says:

Aww man, I completely missed these comments! Sorry for taking so long to reply. And I think Gamera works great for the Bulbasaur line! I mean, they are pretty turtle-ish. I agree about Charizard, especially since dragons already breathe fire, but his tail is pretty awesome! I like Venusaur because I like the idea of a half-animal, half-plant. Usually Grass-starters are animals with plant aspects, but Venusaur is half-flower, half-dinosaur, which is pretty cool. My only complaint is that Mega Venusaur was a total missed opportunity, they should have made the flower on top become a literal Venus’ fly trap (considering he’s named Venusaur :P) As it is, he’s just kinda…having more flowers than before, I guess. Which isn’t very interesting. But it’s Venusaur, so he’s still awesome. Although I do agree that Charizard is pretty funny in the anime, haha. My love of Totodile is also partially influenced by the anime, seeing that Ash’s was utterly insane. XD And yeah, the connection between sunbathing and photosynthesis is super clever. I do like Grovyle better than Sceptile though, design-wise. Sceptile almost feels like it could be an alternate form, or something. I dunno. And Snivy’s smugness is unmatched, haha. I actually chose Snivy in my first run, but I wish I’d chosen Tepig just because I super love pigs. And Greninja’s scarf thing is the best thing ever, there is no denying that! Also, I find it funny that frogs and ninjitsu are always associated with each other in video games and stuff. Like, where did that connection even come from?

          • Pokekinz says:

That’s okay. XD Speaking of, I finally made a comment that moderated on the “Signature African Wild Dog” Kinzapedia page. In case you didn’t already see it. And I feel like with Venusaur, they didn’t try very hard, because they didn’t like it much in the first place. I heard they didn’t. I forget the name of the guy who designed them, though. And apparently he likes Charizard a lot, so that might explain why he gets two awesome Megas (although I prefer the “Y” Mega). And a Venus’ fly trap on Venusaur would’ve been sooooo cooooool…. Especially if it were like a flower Venus’ fly trap thingy (it’d be better in my opinion, anyway). I also haven’t seen the generation 2 anime, sadly…. I haven’t seen a lot of the episodes, cuz we didn’t have cable for the longest time, then we got it back, then we got rid of it again, so yeah. At least the original anime’s on Netflix, so I can watch that (and watch Charizard do everything like a boss). And I’m not really sure if I like Grovyle better than Sceptile, but I do like Treecko a ton. He’s this little midget tree gecko dude, and he’s just all like “yeah, whatever, but we all know I’m better than you”, and he’s not intimidated by anyone. XD And I don’t know what’s up with ninja frogs. I guess cuz frogs and ninjas are both cool…. Or something…. And they usually come out at night…. And they can uh…. Shoot their tongues out really fast…. And…. Hop….? All I know is that Greninja is great. Just not quite as great as Lucario. :P

          • Fracktail says:

He didn’t?! Well, that just makes me sad. I was always wondering why Charizard got two Megas, I think it kinda messes up the “balanced trio” thing they had going there. And yeah, the flower flytrap thing was basically what I was going for; so, the petals would still be there, but in the middle instead of the center there would be a giant pair of yellow flytrap jaws with tan spots, or something. I have a picture of it, but alas I cannot post it anywhere. :c But yeah, I like Mega Charizard Y better too, I feel like Mega Charizard X was trying too hard (and plus it messes up the thing that Shiny Charizard had going, so now Shiny Mega Charizard X just looks weird as far as the color scheme goes. Man, “Shiny Mega Charizard X”. That’s a lot of words, right there.) And I’m sorry about your cable, I hope it all works out! Although, I will be honest, I have a confession: aside from the Kanto episodes, I didn’t watch any of the show in chronological order. I tried to, but there’s just so much filler! So I mostly watched them randomly based on the titles, or I went to the handy-dandy Bulbapedia and looked up which episodes featured Team Rocket because I am terrible and those ones are always the funniest. “Fortune Hunters” is, to this day, my favorite episode of the anime ever. XD And I agree, Treecko is amazing. For some reason, I always see him having a grass stalk/twig or something hanging out of his mouth, like Pancham’s leaf or something. I can’t remember if that was official art or not, but it’s still pretty cool. And according to further research, frogs are associated with ninjas in Japanese culture because of a well-known legend of a ninja named Jiraiya (“young thunder”) who could shapeshift into a giant toad. I think that’s pretty cool, and I also think that Jiraiya is actually a pretty good name for a Greninja.

Wowzers! That cave is AMAZING too bad it will most likely be deluxe…

    • Fracktail says:

OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE THE TREE AND THE CAVE AND EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS THEME. This whole thing is amazing and I’m so glad it won! I can’t wait for it to be available in the W-Shop!!! :D

    • ShardLovesPotatoes says:

I LOVE that column. And yes, that cave does look like a lot of fun. //steps back and slowly sneaks away–

    • _emiemiemiemiemi_ says:

Ikr? These are AWESOME! SO.. COOOL! I love this theme.. I love every item. I am so happy.. this theme.. won… *Sighs in contentment* C= Okay, so I love owls, I love the creepy tree, that cave is awesommeee, the viney stone walls are great, the floor tiles are awesome as well, the log is cool, but still looks like it has a face to me.. lol But yeah, everything is awesome. I overused that word a lot in this but it’s all I could think of. I think I used it like four or five times.. wow.. Okay I’m done rambling… OH YEAH AND IF THERE ARE DELUXE ITEMS I’LL BE ABLE TO GET THEM :D YAAAYYYYYY

      • Fracktail says:

I agree, the vines on the walls were a really nice addition! I love all the foliage all over the rocks and furniture and stuff because it really adds to the feeling of the place being overgrown and abandoned. I also really really really hope they make a murky swamp for this theme because that would be amazing.

    • Lizzie042002 says:

This seems so cool, but I still wanted the Trick or Treat? theme

    • MidnightFireflies15 says:

I love the tree, cave, and column! Beautiful drawings! I would love to have the trick or treat couch though is there anyway you could maybe offer it as a prize please?

      • Fracktail says:

I think my favorite is the tree! The ghastly glower of a face is ghoulishly grand, twisted into a permanent grimace, and I love how the almost skeletal branches seem to be raising themselves up high to scare off intruders. Even the roots seem animated, as if they were reaching out to grab someone and pull them in. The artists must have had lots of fun making this one, and they’ve done an excellent job to boot!

        • ArtMagician says:

Fracktail…with your excellent descriptions, you could write a book. :D

          • Pokekinz says:

            Indubitably! :D

          • Fracktail says:

Off-topic, but “indubitably” is literally my favorite word in the English dictionary. I am not even kidding here, I just love it. It’s like a one-word tongue twister, and yet it still rolls easily off the tongue. Indubitably. But anyways, thanks! :D

          • Fracktail says:

Thank you! I do love writing, haha. These drawings are very inspiring!

          • ArtMagician says:

I love writing too, but never find time to do it. The ideas swirl around in my head…but, alas, never make it on paper. Maybe one day though! And I didn’t even know “indubitably” was a word. ‘o’ It’s really a cool word though! Now I gotta look it up to see what it means…

          • Pokekinz says:

I don’t even remember where I heard it. Wait, that’d probably be weird if I did…. I’ve known it for so long. I like the word a lot, too. I try to replace “common”, if I may, words with longer, lesser known ones, because I feel like it makes the sentence a little more interesting. Must… Expand… Vocabulary…. Oh, and I like writing sometimes, but usually with my own characters, and I like to be able to choose what I’m writing about. I’m not a big fan of writing papers for homework… ( ~_~)p (Uh, that’s supposed to be a thumbs-down, by the way.)

          • Fracktail says:

I have the same problem, ArtMagician! And then when I finally get to sit down and write, I never know where to start. DARN IT, BRAIN. I TRUSTED YOU. Also, I feel the same way about obsessively expanding my lexicon! When I was younger my friends used to get mad at me because I said words they didn’t know in regular conversation but I’d never notice and so I’d get all flustered like “SORRY I DIDN’T KNOW” but they never believed me and so they were always annoyed by that. (They didn’t end up being very good friends later on, if I might add.) My favorite toy when I was little was one of those dictionaries where you type in a word and it gives you the definition and etymology, and you could also look at the thesaurus and play word games. I still have it, actually; even though it’s been long dead I keep it around because I’m sentimental like that. Its name was Webster because I named everything as a kid (and I still do). I got a new one a while ago too, and it still works! Its name is Merriam. Okay, now I’m just boring you with word stories from my childhood, so I’ll stop. I like words, is what I’m saying. I ramble a lot, is what I’m saying.

          • Pokekinz says:

Eh, I’m rambly sometimes too (rambly is totally a word). And I also keep a lot of my old stuff around. My poor mini Robo-Raptor has a broken tail and leg (I keep the leg on with a few rubber bands). I blame my brothers. (~_~) And all my old “My Little Pony” Toys. From when they actually looked very much like ponies. Oh, and I’ve had Yellow version for quite a while… Heh, I actually played that before I could read. Although I wasn’t very good at it…. :P

          • Fracktail says:

Lucky you! My friend has Yellow, and I wish I did too. Then I could get my very own Bulbasaur. ;_; And dang, you have no idea how many Care Bears I’ve hoarded from when I was little…man, I miss the old Care Bears. The new ones are, if I may, expired chocolate pudding. The old Care Bears had good villains. And also Beastly, I guess. (okay I’m kidding beastly was the best)

          • Pokekinz says:

Yes, I’m very happy to have Yellow version. :D So many wonderful glitches…. It’s hard not to abuse them. :P Although I just had to get myself a Mew, I couldn’t help it. And it does seem like the new versions of old TV Shows/Toys aren’t nearly as good. Although I don’t think I ever really watched Care Bears, but I certainly don’t like the look of CGI Care Bears. (O.o) Also Littlest Pet Shops aren’t nearly as good as they used to be. They used to have magnets………. ( -‸-)

          • Fracktail says:

I’ve seen the Mew glitch before! Yeah, the first generation was pretty glitchy, but it was the original! Too bad you can’t transfer Gen I Pokés to later games, though. Also, I feel like the remakes are always worse. Especially when they make “hip” CGI movies of childhood cartoons to “introduce them to a modern audience” and completely ruin them in the process. I’m looking at you, Yogi Bear. But yeah, Care Bears was pretty good (at least to my four-year-old self). No-Heart was rather terrifying, though, haha. Also, do they still make My Little Pony toys like they used to? I used to have a ton, but I dunno if they still have the magnets and the playsets. Wait, did they have playlets? I think I’m confusing My Little Pony with Little People. Dang, I’m on a nostalgia roller coaster today, aren’t I? But yeah, I just assumed they made all kinds of merchandise now because now everyone likes My Little Pony. I dunno.

          • Pokekinz says:

Yeah, they definitely had playsets, I still have the castle. :P It also came with a hot-air balloon, but I broke that quite a while ago. I think some of the sets still have playsets to go with the characters. I don’t know if the new My Little Ponies still have magnets, they probably don’t. They certainly don’t look as high-quality as the old ones. And I saw a part of the TV show. My. Gosh. It’s like they took all of my least favorite kinds of female characters and turned them into ponies. (O_O) Well, I guess Applejack isn’t that bad, but I think they made her too strong for her size. Basically, it’s the old problem of everyone being too “perfect”. Although Pinky is kinda out of her mind, but with the freaky “pinky sense” or whatever it was, she’s my least favorite. Man…. I hope Pokémon doesn’t go full-on CGI, that would just be terrible.

          • Fracktail says:

I dunno, I actually don’t mind Pinky as much as the others, my only gripe about her is her voice. The rest I’m sort of “meh” about, like I don’t hate them, but I don’t really like them either. Like, most shows I can easily pick out a favorite character (unless I like all of them equally :P), but with this one I’m pretty lukewarm about all of them. I mean, most people are crazy about them, but I dunno, I’ve tried it a whole bunch of times but I can’t really “get into it”, you know? I guess it’s just not for me. Although I heard it gets better in later seasons, where it focuses more on the mythology of the ponies, which is pretty cool. Also, I probably wouldn’t have a problem with a CGI spinoff of Pokemon, maybe like a movie or something would be cool, but it’s more the fact that the CGI movies are trying to be cool that bothers me. Like, I don’t mind the art of the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, but they completely rebranded the characters and everything to make it appeal to “modern kids” (because we all know that kids today are simply not advanced enough to enjoy cartoons as they are without having them be “hip”, right?) and that is just annoying to me, haha.

          • Pokekinz says:

I guess there’s just something about CGI I find weird. Especially computer-animated people, it feels weird that fake people can look that…. Real. And I also like sprites in video games. Although, if I can pet a Lucario, then hey. There’s just a lot of stuff that’s “hip” or “modern”, and then I just don’t really like it. Like music. I don’t like a lot of the popular music. Besides, if I always stick to liking what’s hip and popular, I’d constantly have to buy more merchandise and such. And that is why I have a Nintendo, and not a Wii U. That, and I’m not allowed, but whatever.

          • Fracktail says:

Yeah, I see what you’re getting at. I personally prefer hand-drawn animation too, but sometimes CGI can look pretty cool. The thing with hand-drawn animation is that it ages really well; while classics like Looney Tunes and Disney shorts don’t get old, CGI is constantly evolving, so what looked cutting-edge in the 90’s is going to look eye-hurty today (and stuff made today will probably look just as tacky to the Internet children ten years from now). That’s basically my beef with all the “hip/modern” takes on classic stuff too, because they’re taking things that were immortal on their own and twisted it like Silly Putty to make it more marketable for a fleeting amount of time. Not cool, Hollywood. Plus, it just looks more charming in ways I can’t explain. I feel like the hand-drawn animation looks more…organic, y’know? I did get a Wii U, though, because the games were good. I do think that the new can coexist with the old, because Nintendo’s definitely not phasing out the old things, they’re just creating new things to add to that library, is all. I mean, I don’t think Nintendo is one to make things “cool” because that’s not what they stand for, they stand for fun games that everyone can enjoy. But people who make easily-marketable-to-superficial-people versions of already-perfectly-fine things have no excuse, that’s just annoying. :P

So excited about this! I even have some names in mind: Tree: Woefull Willow…Pillar: Stone Watch Owl…Walls: Stoic Stone Walls…Floor Tiles: Fungus Amungus…..Cave: Grand Maw’s Hidden Hillside…Bench: Fallen Hollow Bench

    • ArtMagician says:

Yes, these designs are amazing. I love how animals and creatures seem to be incorporated into these items. Short of ideas for names, but I may think of some.

    • barb539 says:

I agree this will jazz up my haunted house outdoor room, however the haunted house is not working at this time, either are the tomb stones, hopefully they will when this theme is released. A cute name for the tree- Frighten me Tree?

I love this…the only thing I worry about is that a lot of the cooler stuff is going to be Deluxe…
