Sometimes “peanut” is used as a term of endearment (usually for small children), so I would assume that the name was referencing its diminutive size and appearance rather than its resemblance to an actual peanut.
It is called the “Lil’ Peanut Pup” because it is a pup made using the inspiration of “Snoopy” from “Charlie Brown” (the Charlie Brown comic is call “The Peanuts” or “Peanuts”)
