If it is a boy I would name it Khazad (like the Bridge of Khazad-dum in Lord of the Rings where Gandalf fought the Balrog) :P
LINT. I choose Lint because the Cocker Spaniel is a small dog; therefore, very close to the floor. Secondly, its fur/coat looks like an old-fashioned floor mop or floor sweeper. Lastly, its coloring is that of floor lint. Lint is the perfect name for the Black Cocker Spaniel.

I would name it Sable or Raven for a girl and Coal for a boy.
it would be a boy and I would name it Carlton.
I would name him Sooty because he looks like he just rolled in a pile of soot after a long sleep in front of the fireplace overnight!
Cydney… like cinders in ashes of a fire but spelled a bit different.
