The Making of the Black Cat’s Pet of the Month Video

So, like, I am the Pet of the Month for October! How awesome is that? I guess I should introduce myself. I’m the Black Cat and just in case you haven’t seen my video yet I have to tell you that the most important thing you need to know about me is that I love to dance. Oh, and did I mention that I am really good at it? Not that I mean to brag or anything but I have been dancing for – like – forever. Seriously, I can’t even remember a time when I wasn’t taking dancing lessons. And I practice, like, 8 days a week. Seriously.

So anyway, when they told me I was going to be the Pet of the Month the first thing I did was – well, the first thing I did was scream for about a minute straight – but after that I ran straight over to the dance studio and started choreographing the moves for my new video! I was pumped! The producers told me I could invite whoever I wanted to be in the video so of course I immediately called my best friend, Pom Pom Kitty. And okay, I know that I may have gone a little heavy on the cats in my vid – I did ask the Caramel Lion AND the Lynx to perform with us, but what can I say? We cats can really move!

And the baby chick? Well, I’ve been wanting to work with that guy ever since I first spotted him in the Rooster’s Pet of the Month video back in August. He’s had loads of offers since then – I’m so honored he made the time to work with us.

My only problem with the video was that the producers told me I HAD to work in the Halloween angle. Here’s the thing – believe it or not, I am a total scaredy cat! Really! So when they told me that they wanted to make a video with spiders and cobwebs everywhere I almost backed out of the whole thing. Then Pom Pom Kitty (who is, like, my rock) pulled me aside and said, “Hey, why don’t we make that our hook?” I wasn’t sure what she meant, but then she pointed out that when I’m dancing I feel like I can do anything. And I realized she was right. That’s what we needed to make our video all about – about overcoming your fears!

It wasn’t easy – even Caramel Lion was a bit queasy when we showed him the story board for the spider curtain sequence, but you know what?  As soon as we started dancing, it was like our cares just melted away. Next thing I knew I was just having fun with a bunch of my friends and ghosts and goblins were the furthest thing from my mind.

So I hope you’ll all take the time to check out the video. We all worked really hard. And next time you’re feeling scared, don’t be a scaredy cat. Just get up and dance!

I don’t think it’s a very good song, really. I’m only into Halloween when candy and weird (not gruesome) costumes are involved.
