Upcoming Changes to Google Chrome: How They Will Affect Webkinz

On September 4, Google will be releasing a new version of Chrome that will affect your experience with Webkinz.

Starting with that update, you will need to approve the use of Flash each time you load your browser. When you visit Webkinz for the first time, you will see this:

Please click Allow Flash Player. You will then see this:

Again, click Allow. You are now complete and ready to play Webkinz. As long as you do not close your browser (you keep one window/tab open) you will not have to reapprove Flash. So if you log out of Webkinz, you will be able to log back in without any issues. If you do fully close your browser, you will need to approve Flash again the next time you open it.

Currently, this change will only affect Chrome, though we do expect this change to soon be introduced to other browsers like Edge and Firefox.

As many of you have heard, Flash – the technology on which Webkinz runs – will be removed completely from browsers in 2020. As that time nears, using Flash in browsers will become more difficult. We are fully aware of the challenges that this will pose to fans of Webkinz.

We at GANZ are dedicated to ensuring that Webkinz can be enjoyed for years to come. We currently are working on multiple projects that will keep you playing and enjoying your pets, as well as take the game into the future for even more fun. While we cannot discuss the specifics of those projects at this time (they are in development and their details may change) we do hope to begin sharing details by the end of the year.

As always, thanks for being such amazing fans.

Thanks so much for the update and all your work at keeping us going on a computer and not just mobile. I’m not a mobile person at all.

I’m sooo glad Ganz is working hard to make sure that Webkinz won’t go away. Most games would just call it quits after 15 years and a declining fan base. I’d be soo sad if webkinz shuts down. It’s gonna be sad when the current website closes but I’m happy they’re working on the mobile app so we have other ways to play!!

My grand children have grown up on Webkinz. That’s been 19 years of fun for all of us! We tell all new parents about Webkinz and give a pet to get them started. I have confidence that your tech people will brain storm and find a solution. :) Until then I will follow the workarounds to continue playing.

I just want to thank all of you at Ganz! You’ve provided me a childhood. I’ve played Webkinz since I was 4. This game has always been one of my favorites! It’s been fascinating to watch Webkinz World evolve slowly. I can see how much effort you all put into the updates. I hope this game will be able to withstand the test of time! I’d be heartbroken to see it shut down!

yes, we do THANK YOU for keeping us somewhat in the loop–and I trust you are doing what you can–with the bright minds out there, certainly you can snag a few to keep us on a computer screen and here is why–even if you completely were able to transfer the experience to a phone, e.g., this would just not do for me: webkinz would be over for me and I have about 800 pets and don’t even want to admit how much I have spent over the years, but it would buy a car. I will need therapy and will perhaps never recover…. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE KEEP WEBKINZ ON COMPUTER SCREEN PLAY. THANK YOU, k.

I really appreciate this update. As these changes come along, communication with your fan base will be extremely important. I use Chrome regularly, and if I didn’t know why this was happening, I would perceive this as an annoying glitch. Knowing the reason it occurs will make all the difference, and I agree with an earlier comment. It’s no big deal at all. Thank you for letting us know!

Thanks for the warning. I will be going into Chrome and making sure Auto-Update is turned off so I keep the version I have for as long as possible.

I’m so worried that webkinz is going to close. I still am so sad about Pixie Hollow, and then last year Club Penguin. I have played webkinz the longest and I love it. I don’t want to play on mobile.
