With December 2020 approaching, we wanted to give you an update to the future of Webkinz. Back in May 2019, we released the Webkinz Desktop App, and later in the year we released the Mac version. These versions did still use the Flash Player, just without a browser.
We are pleased to announce that we will soon be releasing a NEW Desktop App that no longer uses Flash Player at all. This version will allow you to play Webkinz for years to come!
And there is no need to wait. By downloading and installing the current Desktop App, you will automatically be upgraded to the new version as soon as it is ready.
We at Ganz are very proud of Webkinz and have no intention of a little thing like Flash getting in the way of your fun! We will continue to support Webkinz with new items, new pets and all of your favorite events.
Download the Desktop Application now, and have fun in Webkinz World!
Do we have to down load the app now in order to down load the later app. Right now I can’t down load the app because it wont let me open the Administrator to allow me to update flash to down load the app as of now.
the mobile app cant do everything thatn online can do, and i cant get the desk top app because i dont have anything to get it on because it wont work on a chromebook. will this mean i will have to quit webkinz?
can you PLEASE put a mute button in the desktop app? A lot of the sound effects on this game are annoying, and they make it impossible to listen to music while playing.
THAT IS A GREAT IDEA! making a mute button on EVERY way to play webkinz would be so awsome! I also listen to music while playing and it is quite annoying hearing other sounds.
Use the volume mixer. Right click the sound icon in the bottom right icon and then mute the application
Yesss! Couldn’t agree more! I would love if that was an option. That’s pretty much the only suggestion I have for this new desktop app.
please please please please please please
LOL – what is annoying to one, another really enjoys! I like some of the games musics, but the ones I personally don’t like (and might too call annoying), tend to be the ones my daughter loves to listen to! I will add, that I too like to mute it often and stream music instead.
I have a work-around for that – if you open up your computer’s Volume Mixer, you should see volume bars for different things like your browser sound, system sounds, etc. Webkinz should be one since it’s an app, you can set it’s volume to be lower than your other applications :)
if you use a windows computer, you can open the volume mixer and mute webkinz manually!
I second this one. 1) Besides myself, there are another one or two in the fam that are doing the work from home thing and the sound can interfere with concentration. 2) Got a couple of really older people in the house that don’t really care for the “noise” when the get in the vicinity of the computer.
I agree. A possible Mute would be nice. At this time the whole computer is silent.
I too disliked the noise and I muted it, but I can not remember how. I believe I did it somewhere within my computer system, not the game itself.
I agree. I like playing Webkinz while listening to an audio book, but it is hard to listen when my pets keep making noise.
I have downloaded the app and now trying to install the flash player and for some reason every time I try to log in it says I need to install a flash player and I did.
Patch, where you able to sort this out? I am having the same problem.
If I already downloaded the app for Windows 10, is this one different? Do I have to do it again?
They said “And there is no need to wait. By downloading and installing the current Desktop App, you will automatically be upgraded to the new version as soon as it is ready.” so i’m sure the app you already have is fine!
LINUX too, pleeeeeeze, or I’ll have to buy a small Windows laptop just for Webkinz
You could probably get by with using a virtual machine to simulate Windows and run the Webkinz app from there. I think…
YES i second this, a linux option would be nice
You can probably run a Windows virtual machine on your Linux machine.
I love the desktop app and don’t go in via the browser any longer. The only thing wrong with the app is that you can’t play two accounts at the same time like you could in the browser.
Oh, no! I just realized cause of your comment! How am I going to trade between accounts now?? I sure don’t have two computers and I don’t want a family member going “what is the webkinz app doing on my computer?”
I wish I could run two accounts at the same time too. maybe two virtual Windows?
Excerpt: [And there is no need to wait. By downloading and installing the current Desktop App, you will automatically be upgraded to the new version as soon as it is ready.] Errr, Does this mean that those of us that have the Desktop Version already are ok and it’ll auto-update, or do we have to re-download it again?
Yep, according to the article the app should upgrade itself accordingly.
Will the new version look the same as the current version?
Sounds good! Though you also promised us some info on the future of Webkinz plush before the year’s end. Well the year’s almost up! I really miss Steve’s unboxing videos and there’s nothing quite like bringing the plush to life! When will we be getting more info on this?
Yes, I agree! I believe they said in the future of plush post that the will be continuing to make plush, but retiring many. Please notice us ganz! We need more info!
can we play it without the app or do we have to get it? because I usually play it online:)
most internet browsers are doing away with flash after 2020. you will need the app in 2021
fluffanutter is right.
At some point, you will have to download the desktop app if you want to be able to play. The new desktop app is free and easy to install. I’ve been using it about four months.
