Earth Day Contest Winners

Congratulations to Pam, Jessica, Lauren, Abbie and Jane! They’ve each been awarded a retired Earth Table. We wanted to hear how you were going to celebrate Earth Day. Check out the winning entries below:

I am going to clean up along the creek near my house. There is not much trash but a lot of fallen branches and debris are clogging the water up. When silt piles up against the debris then the stream can overflow and flood the road. That means that the stream picks up dirt that washes into the river. – Pam

This Earth Day I am going to plant lots of trees so then some animals can have new homes. I also am going to recycle old bottles and help save Earth. I am going to tell all of my friends, neighbors, and even random people to do the same thing. Next I am going to not use the electronics in my house to save electricity. That is what I am going to do this Earth Day. - Jessica

Every year my little sister and I find that even on Earth Day our neighborhood is filled with garbage. When Earth Day comes we go around our cul de sac (a no outlet street) and pick up the garbage. Then we walk next door and go to our retention pond to pick up more garbage. Most of the time my sister and I do this year round to save the animals from getting caught in the garbage. I hope we are helping the world hopefully more people will do this too! – Lauren

Well, Earth Day is my uncle’s birthday. So really we’re going to be celebrating my uncle’s birthday! We might plant a tree at my grandparents’ house. My aunt, as a joke, will probably get him a tree for a present. I love my uncle’s birthday being Earth Day because then we get to celebrate two holidays! – Abbie

This year, I am celebrating Earth Day by planting an apple tree in my backyard. It will take a long time to grow, but I will keep it healthy. At my school, we are having a contest. The homeroom that uses the least amount of electricity wins a 25 dollar gift card to Daddio’s Frozen Yogurt. My school is also going to pick up trash at a nearby park. My sisters and I are going to play outside as much as possible and not go on the computer! Going green can be very fun, ecspecially if it is your favorite color. Happy Earth Day! – Jane
