Hi readers! I’d like to introduce myself! I’m the Hedgehog and I’m very proud to say that I am the Pet of the Month for April! I was kind of nervous about it but the Duck told me that being Pet of the Month is no sweat. Which is good – because I tend to roll up in a ball when I’m scared.
But the reason I’m here today is to tell you some interesting facts about myself, so I thought I’d explain how we hedgehogs got our name. The world ‘hedgehog’ comes from ‘hedge’ because we are pretty shy and we like to hide in shrubs and hedges, and ‘hog’ because our noses look kind of like a pig’s snout.
We also have spines, kind of like a porcupine, but unlike porcupines, our spines don’t come out easily. Our spines are actually hollow hairs that are stiff. Neat, huh?
Well, I hope I did okay with my first set of fun facts. I’ll be back again with more fun facts next week.
