Dear Plumpy,
I’m kind of worried about something and I thought it might make me feel better if I shared it with you. Tomorrow there is going to be a Talent Show at camp and Sparky and Benny really want me to tell jokes with them. I told them I wasn’t sure I wanted to. I’m really nervous about getting up in front of everybody and telling jokes. I mean – what if I mess up the punch line? Or worse – forget it altogether! Sparky says how can I be nervous when I tell jokes to my friends all the time? But that is completely different! When I tell jokes to my friends, I’m just goofing around. Having to tell lots of jokes properly is scary. Sparky is really excited about the Talent Show and we’re already one ‘Kinz short (Stoogles sprained his flipper), so I’m trying to get my nerve up, but I feel kind of sick at the thought of it. Have you ever had to get up in front of a huge group of people? I wish you were here so you could help me not feel so nervous.

I know what you can do Nibbles. You can trade places with stoogle. He is sad, because he can’t be in the show because of his flipper. That way you both will be in the show. Stoogles telling jokes, and you jumping out on que. :)

Hello Nibbles
You said you are comfortable with telling jokes to your friends so there are 2 ways to deal with this:
1. See if you can arrange for your friends to sit in the front row so it will be just like you are with yopur friends. When they laugh and cheer you will feel more relaxed and you will draw positive energy from them.
2. Again….you say you are more comfortable with your friends….well….the whole audience could become your friend and when you make them laugh they will want to be your friend…so….no matter what just remember….you are with friends and just have fun with it.

Don’t worry nibbles! if you DO mess up (highly unlikely that you will) just make it look like it was part of the joke. Like, tell your joke partners that your nervous and if you mess up tell them that you’ll turn to them and be like… i don’t know, you? no. Do you? let’s think this over. make many gestures while in a huddle while they secretly tell you the answer. you stand up clear your throat and tell it. everybody will think that’s what REALLY supposed ot happen.

I would sign my name, but it is a computer, not a sheet of paper. Anway, by my little Monsters! And if you ever get bullied for looks, personality, or disability, just remember what I said…YOU WERE BORN THAT WAY BABY! You can’t help that, you will NEVER be someone else, just always who you are now.
Believe in yourself, Nibbles. If you mess up the joke, just go on with it. With practice, you should be good by Talent Show night. And pretend that you are just telling jokes to your friends, instead of a big audience.
