Inukshuk’s Recipe: Rock Candy

What you need:

-          A wooden skewer or chopstick

-          A clothespin

-          1 cup of water

-          2-3 cups of sugar

-          A tall narrow glass or jar

You will need an adult assistant to help you with this recipe.

What you do:

1. Clip the wooden skewer with the clothespin so that when you set the clothespin across the top of the glass, the wooden skewer hangs down into the glass without touching the sides or bottom.

2. Set skewer and clothespin aside.

3. With the help of your adult assistant, bring the water to a boil. Pour in sugar, about a ¼ cup at a time, stirring each time until sugar is completely dissolved.

4. Be patient – as you add more sugar, it will take longer to dissolve. Keep adding sugar until no more will dissolve. Remove from heat and allow it to cool for 20 minutes.

5. Have your assistant carefully pour the mixture into the glass or jar. Place the clothespin back across the top of the glass so that the skewer is hanging straight down into the mixture without touching the bottom or sides of the glass.

6. Place the glass jar somewhere it will not be disturbed and leave it for 3 – 7 days. When you come back, you will find a pretty treat awaiting you.

Awwwwwwwww I’m so sorry that you got braces. I’ll need a retainer because I can do a brittany from alvin and the chipmunks look perfectly. I recovered my password(thank GOODNESS for estore pets to save my account!!! :D) so I’m recovering from that..I missed my online butterscotch late(My small signature golden retriever ;D)! Oh SO much! 3 1/2 years of work on that account is a TON. At least it doesn’t hurt anymore, that is good, right? I got a new LPS for $2.50(50% clearance at wallmart!) she’s a special edition orange cat named princess orange(Original, I know…) that comes with a stack of pink cans that I am thinking are fish….:p See you! Hope you can eat hard candies like rock candy soon(Gotta LOVE rock candy and I LOVE it! xD).

Rock candy just tastes like sugar. It’s just crunchy, lightly-cooked sugar, and it’s kinda fun to eat it off of the stick. It’s also fun science, because you see how it crystallizes.

You could probably flavor the rock candy, by adding a candy-making flavoring to the mixture after it cools. For that matter, you could color it, too!

I have braces too! They aren’t so bad once you get used to them you know? Hurray that they don’t hurt for you!

I think you could let the candy melt in your mouth and eat it like a peppermint. I had braces, but I got them off. I’m glad yours don’t hurt. (-:
