Dear Diary,
You are never, ever in a billion years going to believe what my parents told me today.
Remember how I said they were acting distant? And how they were being weird?
Well, now I know why.
My mom is having a baby!
My parents didn’t know exactly how to tell me. They said that since I’ve been an only rabbit for so long, they didn’t know how I’d take the news. They made a special dinner and called me into the dining room. On the wall was a banner. It said, “You’re going to be a big sister!”
I nearly fainted.
That’s honestly what happened. The room got a little dim and I felt my knees turn to jelly. My dad grabbed a chair and helped me sit down. He got me a glass of carrot juice and told me to drink it slowly.
My mom held my paw and asked if I was OK. I just drank my juice and nodded.
After a few moments, my dad asked what I thought.
What do I think? That’s a tough question.
Part of me is really excited – I’ve always said that I’d love a sibling. But the other part of me? The less mature part? I’m worried that a new baby will totally take over my parents’ lives. I mean, I know a new baby is a lot of work (I remember when Millie was born five years ago – she was a handful!)…but my parents will still have time for me, right?
Overall, the biggest thing I’m worried about is space- we don’t have an extra room for the baby. Does that mean I’ll end up sharing? Because THAT will not be awesome. Maybe I’ll move my room to the basement and have a little apartment of my own. That would work…
So much to think about! I guess time will tell what’s going to happen next.
Love,
Roberta
Congrats, It’s going to take time, lots and lots of time to get used to a new baby. But it’s going to be hard on your mom and dad too. …the’re used to being awake in the daytime and sleeping at night, having meals at regular times, you know, a regular order to their days. That’s all going to change. It might be a good idea for you to talk to them about moving downstairs. Maybe the three of you could then redecorate your room for the baby. You could even video yourselves doing it, that would make a nice gift for the baby. jennifer
Oh, wow Roberta! Congrats! Just to warn you, younger siblings can be QUITE the handful… but they can be fun, too! I’m sure you’ll have fun discovering what younger siblings are like. I agree with you, MDIChickadee.
Wow, Roberta, what GREAT news!! And I think you are wise to recognize the excitement and joy that your new sibling will bring as well as the posible drawbacks – that gives you time to negotiate parent time and space before the new baby arrives, recognizing that adjustments may have to be made after the baby arrives, too. You are going to make a wonderful big sister! All the best! MDIChickadee P.S. Given the age difference between you and your sibling, I think having your own space is going to be important …
I was 3 when my little brother was born too! I was a lot of work, because I was so young. >> cathouse2
That’s awesome Roberta! I hope you have fun with the new baby! >> cat lover cathouse2
You’re older now, Roberta, so I’m sure you’ll be a big help with the baby! I remember I wasn’t! But I was only 3 when my little brother was born! We were a huge handful. ♥
That’s great Roberta! Congradulations on being a big sister! (Or a soon-to-be one) -bookworm
Don’t worry, u will be fine. And you will have so much fun with the baby!! I’m sure u will love it so much. ~ RainingSt@rz
I Knew it! Congrats Roberta! :) ~HrsGrl10
I hav 2 siblings and still want a lil sis. So, even if u want a baby sis, just be happy and trust me, I hate I wasn’t old enough when my youngest brother was a baby to have been more help for my mom.
I know how you feel Roberta. 6 years ago, my new baby sister was born. I was PRETTY JEALOUS! She always got so much attention, and I was very naughty to earn my attention back, and I did– the bad type. Hey, I was only 6, what can I say? But you’ll get used to it, Roberta. ~Phoenix Wind~
I honestly fainted out cold when I found out I was going to be a big sister, but I just faint a lot
Actually, everything Roberta said is true. But there are always the good things. Roberta, you should be happy that you’re getting a little sister. Being the only rabbit is not fun at all. She may be a pain, but she may also be fun to play with. My little bro. has always wanted a little brother, but if he does, then there’s going to be no more room in our house. LOL
I share a room with my little sister, it’s not that bad honestly.
i have to share a room with my older sister
Roberta, I really know how you feel! I have 5 siblings! And my mom just had a baby last week! ♥♥♥PrincessDelight♥♥♥
I knew It!!!! WOW!!! Congrats Roberta!!!(finally they tell us the rest of the story)
I know how you feel Roberta. 5 years ago my sister was born on the day right after Christmas. I was jelouse and pretty upset. Shes still kinda annoying but hey. Thats what baby sisters are made for. I wonder what her name is going to be. ~KK ♥
I’m actually the youngest in my family, but it’s exciting that you’re going to be a big sister, Roberta! Congrats! *~♥SwedishLatte♥~*
It’s ok roberta! Eveything will work out! Your friend sarahandacey!  ;-) :-)
Congrats Roberta! My best friend has little siblings and they can be annoying, but they are really awesome. So don’t worry they’ll be up and downs but you love them to death anyway (I shouldn’t know cuz I am the youngest in my family LOL) -PHN :D
I totally guessed it! Congrats, and have fun being a big sister! I don’t know if the baby will take attention away from you( because I’m the youngest,) but I’m sure you’ll love the baby anyways. (*(*dragonfish*)*)
Wow Roberta! I knew it! I’m happy for you, and at the same time I feel slightly sorry for you, as I have two younger sisters. But I bet something else will be happening for you- you probably will have to move. Remember how she said, “we don’t have an extra room for a baby?”
I had to move when my brother was born, but if it weren’t for it, we would’ve never met up with my long lost cousin, Northwestern. And my little brother, Styx fan 101, even cut my hair in my sleep, but hey, we still love him!
Did he get into big trouble??????? If my little bro did that, he would get into BBBBBBBBBIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGGGGGGG trouble
Congrat’s Roberta! That’s awesome! You’ll love having a sibling, even if they are annoying sometimes (trust me, I know). I wonder if it’s a boy or a girl? :) ~*Dawn*~
