Roberta’s Mom’s Baby Shower!

Guess what, everyone? Today was my mom’s baby shower and it was SO much fun! We played games, we ate delicious treats (we had the whole thing catered by La Soufflé) and my mom got a TON of cute gifts. You should see some of the baby clothes! They’re SO tiny. She got mostly green and yellow things, because we don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl. My aunt (my mom’s sister) thinks it’s DEFINITELY a girl, but I don’t know. I keep switching between boy and girl! What I DO know is that my mom said in about a month or so the baby will be here, so we have to be ready for him or her. What does that mean? Well, she said we should pick up a few more baby clothes, some diapers, a baby bathtub and a few other things. We’re going to go to the store after school gets out for the summer. I can’t wait!

If you guys could tell me one thing about taking care of babies (something that would help me be a better big sister), what would it be?

Roberta, I know you will be a great older sister. One word of advice. Don’t be jealous of the new baby. Newborns take a lot of work and your parents will have to take care of the newborn on your baby brother/sisters time table. Understand that and learn how to help your parents after you baby brother/sister arrives. Spend time with your new baby sibling and talk to them. A little warning…when you baby sister/brother gets a little older they will try and grab your glasses. When you take them off put them out of reach of your younger siblings. *hugs* Tribbles

Well, I’m an older sister of two so here is what I suggest: First teach him as much as you can. Second learn first aid, how to use an epi pin etc. etc. Third before your mom has the baby ask her to show you how to make a bottle, how to give her(or him) a bath, how to feed him(or her), and how to change a diaper. Fourth don’t worry. you brother/sister will be fine. Also make sure your mom gets her rest.

OK 1 GREAT thing needed is a few sets of EAR PLUGS!!!!!! If Dad has to work the ear plugs will help him get more rest. On weekends you could take a night changeing for mom and dad . Give them a break :) . Remember baby’s cant tell you what they need its a guessing game so babies cry out of frustration. ALSO to just hear them selves talk . 2yr 4 months old is pretty cool . OH yes get a book on what to expect at different ages of development.

Congratulations, Roberta! :D My advice is to be a good role model to your little brother or sister, because they will look up to you. Also, if you have small things in your room that they can grab easily, be sure to hide them or put them high up where they can’t reach, because babies put things in their mouths. When you go shopping for baby stuff, don’t forget the car seat and toys! :)

Make sure you learn how to change diapers and warm up bottles. You don’t want them to be too hot. Also learn what baby needs with the different cries he or she may make. Remind your mom to nap when baby naps. Let your mom rest as much as she can new babies are a lot of work. Hope this helps and I just know you are going to love being a big sister. Good Luck!
