Some Little Known Fruits!

Everyone’s familiar with the fruit at the grocery store – but how about the little known fruits that you may never have seen before? Get ready to learn about them here! If you’ve had one before, which is your favorite?

Dragon fruit
* Dragon fruit is the fruit of a cactus.
* Dragon fruit is also called pitaya.
* Dragon fruit tastes a bit like pear and kiwi, combined!

Durian
* Durians are covered in sharp spikes – although the fruit’s flesh is creamy.
* Durian is banned from certain places in Asia, due to its strong smell.
* Some compare the taste of a durian to shrimp, custard, apples and…gym socks.

Lychee
* Lychee fruit grows on a tree.
* A tough rind covers the soft insides of a lychee fruit.
* Lychee fruit has a delicate flavor – that’s why many people like to eat them fresh.

Persimmon
* Persimmons resemble tomatoes.
* You can eat persimmons raw, dried, or cooked
* Persimmons can be used in a variety of dishes – and are commonly used in dessert (because they’re sweet).

I’ve had star fruit before. I don’t really remember exactly but I know I didn’t totally like it, but it does not taste horrible. It is very interesting, kind of too sweet for me as far as I remember. But it is kind of good, I would definitely not be afraid to try it!

If I remember correctly, starfruit is sweet and a bit sour. I know I loved it, but we don’t get it anymore because it’s too expensive. :( I really like it though!

I’ve had it in hawaii I used to like it now I don’t really, it’s definatly different. Try it and see if you like it.
One fruit I doubt many of you know about is rhombaton. I think that’s how you spell it. It tastes a lot like lychee but I like it more :) It looks like a spiky red nut but you peel it and it looks just like the inside of lychee.
Another fruit I like is apple banannas because they are small banannas and I think they taste better. :)
Meyer lemons are also good because they are sweeter than normal lemons and work better in homemade lemonade.
Who else has had these fruits?

I love star fruit! It has crunchy texture, like water chestnuts in a stir fry.

durian looks really weird! I wonder if i’ll ever try it!!!

  4. Emy4pandas says:

I’ve eaten all of them. The durian is really popular in Malaysia and Singapore and I ate them there. The durian stinks and you would have to go to a Chinatown to buy it. The other fruit you can buy in a can and the lychee can also be bought in a soda like can and drink it like fruit juice. :) Persimmon you can buy in a regular grocery store. It’s like pears or apples.
