Summer in the Sun Contest

Congratulations to Morgan, April, Sarah, Ray and Kali! They’ve each been awarded a Lazy River Ride. We wanted to know where the sun would go on vacation — and here are the winning entries!

I think the sun like to retire from always being soo hot and would love go to somewhere freezing cold for a change like ANTARTICA!! He could build icy igloos and he could build huge snow balls so if the mean snow monster attacked him he could throw snowballs at him, and he would leave the sun alone for a while. The sun would like to build a snowman to keep him company. The sun would be a very good friend to all the penguins, seals, and polar bears and all the other animals. He would like to make snow angels. He would make tasty snow ice cream and it would be his new favorite food. He would never be cold, so there would never be any need for a warm coat and he could lay out outside his igloo. But since he’s one billion degrees he would melt all of Antarctica and there would never be any snow. So he can’t live in Antarctica. He would have to live in Florida where he could keep all of the tourists warm and he never should retire because we need him to help us stay hot so he can eat ice cream! - Morgan

The sun loved being in the daytime sky, but he wanted to take a vacation. The moon looked so happy shining in the dark, reflecting its beautiful light onto lakes and rivers and playing tag with the stars. So the sun whispered to the clouds “I want to visit the nighttime!” The clouds passed it on to the comets, which passed it on to the stars, who quietly told the moon, “The sun wishes to visit the nighttime.” The moon thought and though about this. She finally whispered, “Very well.” And it was arranged that for a full night, the sun would sparkle in the place of the moon. - April

Where would the sun go on vacation? Well maybe the sun is tired of being sunny and goes to a cloudy place? Maybe he could go to a nice cold place like a ski lodge. He could go skiing all he wanted, and then he would try snow boarding and enjoy that as well. Maybe afterwards he would have a snowball fight with his friends. Soon he would settle in with his friends in the lodge for hot chocolate, and all his friends would gather around him for warmth instead of the fire! In the end he would go to bed in a warm cozy suit after eating a yummy meal of hot-dogs and playing board games with his pals. The sun would not soon forget his time he had playing in the cold for a change and being able to have fun with his friends. – Sarah

Where would the sun go on vacation? Well, maybe some place it has never seen before! But hasn’t the sun already seen everything? The sun has been around for billions of years and has seen everything there is to be seen! But there is one place that the sun hasn’t seen, yet! And that place is. . . Webkinz World! What better place for the sun to go on vacation? Webkinz World has so many fun activities that it will never get tired! It could even go on a mini vacation in Webkinz World! It could play a whole bunch of games at the arcade, or maybe it would like to go gem mining! There are so many possibilities! So, why wouldn’t the sun like to visit Webkinz World? – Ray

It might surprise you, but the sun gets tired of being hot all the time. So sometimes, during the summer, the sun has its twin brother take over while the sun goes on vacation. And where does it go you ask? The North Pole! See, not only it it nice and cold there, but the sun often reports to Santa. Its hard for Santa to keep track of all the kids in the world, and the sun sees everyone every day. The sun has to turn its heat down, otherwise it would melt all the ice. When it does that, it turns colorful, just like the Northern Lights. So, if you notice the Northern Lights are a little brighter than usual, then you know that the sun is on vacation! – Kali
