Cowabelle’s Play: Act One

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to our play. My name is Cowabelle Cowoline. The Camp St. Bernard Players have been working hard on our new play, rehearsing for days. Special thanks to Kimmy Koala for helping us design and sew all of our costumes and build our sets.

Tonight’s production stars CiCi as Princess Cecila, Fen Fen as Sir Fen, me as Queen Cowabelle, Mackenzie as King Mac, Izzy as the Bee Queen, Elwin as the Pirate King and Charles as the Wise Wizard.

I really hope you enjoy our play – it was written and directed by me!

And so, without further ado –

The Vengeance of the Bee Queen

Once upon a time, in the faraway land of Kinzovia, there lived a kindly King and Queen and their beloved daughter, Princess Cecilia. The Princess fell in love with a brave and handsome knight named Sir Fen and when King Mac and Queen Cowabelle proudly announced their daughter’s engagement, there were celebrations across the land. In one corner of Kinzovia though, the news of the royal engagement was not met with joy. The wicked Bee Queen was determined that the marriage between the Princess and the Knight would never come to pass.

On the eve of the wedding, the Bee Queen descends on the palace.

Bee Queen: I declare this union shall never take place!

King Mac: Bee Queen – why would you want to rob these young ‘Kinz of their happiness?

Bee Queen: I will tell you why – I was young and in love once. But one day I was captured and carried away by these accursed bees and that was the last time I ever saw my beloved. And if I am to be denied my own true love, then so too shall the Princess and Sir Fen!

With a loud buzzing sound, the Bee Queen vanishes.

Queen Cowabelle: (weeping) Oh, my husband! Whatever shall we do?

King Mac: Fear not, my dear. She has gone. Let us carry on with the celebrations and put this ugly incident behind us. I shall double the guards at the palace and the wedding will go on tomorrow as planned.

Queen Cowabelle: Oh, I do hope you are right!

But alas, the King was mistaken. For that night, the Bee Queen stole past the guards into the princess’ chamber as she slept, and put a curse on the girl. The next morning, the kingdom awoke to the news that the Princess had fallen into a deep, unnatural sleep from which she could not be stirred. The King and Queen called Sir Fen to the Palace immediately.

Queen Cowabelle: We are certain that the antidote to the Bee Queen’s curse must lie across the water with the Wise Wizard.

Sir Fen: I have readied my ship. I sail for the castle of the Wise Wizard at once.

Queen Cowabelle: But ruthless pirates rule the seas between here and the Wizard. If you choose to take on this challenge, Sir Fen, you face a perilous journey.

Sir Fen: Pirates cannot keep me from my goal. I will not rest until the Princess is safe.

King Mac: You are a brave man, Sir Fen. I know that if anyone is to save our daughter it will be you.

Queen Cowabelle: Good luck, Sir Fen. Our prayers are with you.
