By Mrs. Birdy
I hope you’re having a happy summer, Webkinz fans. I know I am! I just love this season because it gives me an opportunity to get out in my yard for one of my favorite pastimes – gardening! Have you ever tried starting your own garden? It is a true joy, planting a seed and watching it grow.
Here are some tips for starting your own garden:
- When choosing a spot for your garden, try to find a sunny spot.
- I find it’s simplest to start small and expand on my garden each year.
- Your soil should be moist but not overly damp. Organic matter like compost adds nutrients to the soil that will help your plants grow.
One of my greatest satisfactions is cooking with fruits and vegetables from my own garden. Vegetables are some of the easiest plants to grow.
- You don’t need a big space to grow vegetables – it’s possible to grow many types of vegetables in pots or planters.
- Some easy-to-grow vegetables include lettuce, carrots, green beans, onions and potatoes.
- Tomatoes and cucumbers do better in warm climates so if you live in a cooler area, you might like to start some of your vegetables in planters indoors and transfer them outside when the weather heats up.
- Some birds and furry friends just love helping themselves to vegetables in a garden. You can keep them out by building a small fence around your vegetables with chicken wire.
Of course, a flower garden is a pleasure to behold! I just love looking out my window at a riot of color in the summer months.
- Some flowers love to be in the sun all day, whereas others prefers shade some or all of the time, so when you’re choosing flowers be sure to select ones that will thrive in the spot you’ve chosen for your flower garden.
- Flowers that come back every year are called ‘Perennials’ and flowers that last for one season only are called ‘Annuals.’ I like to use a mix of the two in my garden.
- Try to choose flowers that will bloom at different times in the season so that you always have some flowers in bloom.
- Some flowers will attract different types of wildlife. You might want to try planting flowers that will attract butterflies, hummingbirds or ladybugs.
I do hope that you’ll consider starting your own garden, Webkinz fans. I’m sure that you’ll find it as rewarding as I do.
SHE GOT TRANSFORMED! lol
