Salley decides on an Earth Day project

I think all the Earth Day activities planned around Kinzville are really cool events, but I kind of had my own idea and I thought to myself, this is what the school presidency has been preparing me for. I am going to take on my very own Earth Day project.

I know that when my friends and I ride our bikes around Kinzville I get really down whenever I see litter lying around, so I am going to organize volunteers to go around Kinzville and pick up trash. I think that’s something that will have real impact.

My mom thinks that I am taking on too much and if I want to organize a town-wide clean up I am going to need help, but I really want to plan this myself. Imagine my feeling of accomplishment when I look around the town and know that I am the one responsible for getting all that trash cleaned up.

Great idea, Salley! With your new plan, Kinzville can get involved in cleaning up and caring for the Kinzville community! Also, it will encourage people to not litter and join the team!

Woohoo Sally! I know you can do it, but there is one thing. I think it would be best if you got some of your friends to just ‘stand by’ in case you need help. Just incase. I’m not saying you can’t do it by yourself, but if you suddenly find yourself desperately needing them, they will be close at hand and ready to jump in. Besides, it might be fun to all work together on this. I know you have been looking forward to it, but you never know. You are all a team. Anyways, good luck! Congratulations on your brilliant idea! ~WebkinzEmily~

Go for it, Salley! It is going to be a TON of work – advertising for help, getting permission to have people there, getting drinks and food donated … and likely a hundred other jobs (gloves for volunteers? t-shirts? trash bags in which to put the trash??)) I know you can do it! All the best! MDIChickadee

That sounds like a fantastic idea Salley. But don’t be ashamed to ask for help. There’s nothing wrong with it. What will feel better, never finishing an important project because you have to much pride, or seeing the change you and you r friends were able to make because you are a humble kind girl.

Salley, your mom is very wise. Listen to her. Letting your friends help plan the project will make it just what you wanted – bigger! You can still organize & direct them. A good leader knows how to give some of the work to others to make the project a greater success.
