As the creators of a game for children, we are dedicated to keeping our players safe online, so we understand the need for ad blockers that prevent annoying or potentially unsuitable advertising from popping up as you play.
Did you know that there is a way to allow Webkinz ads to show up that still blocks ads from other sites?
The advantage to allowing Webkinz ads to show up is that there are features and events in Webkinz World that are delivered through our ad system, including:
- Find the ads
- Visiting characters in the Park
- Watch and Wins
- And more!
Webkinz relies on advertising revenue to help us deliver the best possible product to our players. And because Webkinz complies with COPPA, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, the ads that we do show follow guidelines laid out by the government that restrict the types of marketing that can be displayed to children under 13. Want to know more about COPPA? You can read about it here.
To make sure that you’re getting the best Webkinz experience, you can ask your parents to add Webkinz to your ad blocker’s ‘whitelist’. A ‘whitelist’ allows ads from websites that YOU choose, while blocking ads from everywhere else.
Each ad blocker works a little differently. One of the most popular, Adblock Plus, makes it pretty simple to whitelist a site. Just go to webkinz.com, then right-click the large, red ABP stop sign icon in the top right corner. Scroll down to ‘Disable on webkinz.com’ and you’re done! Some other ad blockers will require you to go into their Preferences, select ‘Whitelist’ and paste webkinz.com into the list.
Of course, you need to get your parents’ permission before making any changes to the ad blocker on your computer. Be sure to talk to them about adding us to your whitelist so you never miss another event in Webkinz World!
I did add Webkinz to my whitelist and the game ran so slow had to block the ads again. Sorry Webkinz but without the ad blocker the site runs too slow and locks up my computer.
Does anyone here remember way back when there were no ads that were unrelated to Webkinz? I miss those days. At least I have Adblocker.
Yes! That was way better
Mandy Webkinz & Sally Webkinz, since you have replied to others on this topic (3x), please respond to us about correcting the video problems – so we don’t need to use an ad blocker program. We are all anxiously waiting to hear from you at Webkinz Central. Thank you!
Where is “Whitelist” located?
Why was my comment removed?
Was it very long? Excessively long posts don’t usually get approved.
I thought the same thing gabby1960.. .
If there were no video ads, but all the ads seem to be videos that play automatically and reload every 5 seconds, and they make my poor computer run like molasses and the game stall, and some of them have sound which also plays automatically. There have also been ads for things that don’t seem right for children, like those “free credit report” ads with obnoxious animations to make you click.
Yeah, This is good news.
can anybody give me a head count on how many people play webkinz?
Over 1,000.
To be honest, I have no idea, but at one point millions played it. Not so sure about nowadays, seems more like around 10,000-20,000 players. Maybe not even that many. :(
Think things are gradually getting fixed. Yesterday Webkinz seemed to run almost normally with the ad blocker on.
