Hailey and Elwin make over Debbie Dragon’s bedroom

Elwin here. Our pal, Debbie Dragon, came to Hailey and me and asked us if we could help her out with her bedroom. Apparently Debbie has been living with a lot of hand-me-downs from her parents and grandparents so her room was a mishmash of heavy, older antiques. And with the dark colors, it all just seemed very overwhelming.

Debbie is a successful professional and she wanted her bedroom to reflect that. She has been saving up for a while so that she could do this reno right.

This is the ‘before.’ See what we mean? The dark red floor and walls just seem so heavy, especially when combined with all these rich wood grains and antiques. It also doesn’t really match. I mean, we’re all for a bit of mixing and matching, but there are so many different wood tones here.

The one thing that Debbie really wanted was more storage space for her clothes. She has a very polished, expensive work wardrobe and she wants her things to be really well organized so that she can access them easily. She also loves having a fireplace in her room so that is the one thing that she insisted on keeping.

Here are the results. What do you think?

Hailey and I have had our eyes on some of the new furniture lines available. We really love the Downtown Penthouse theme, so we picked out a couple of pieces like the Downtown White Armchair, which we paired with the Glass-Topped Dining Table to replace Debbie’s desk, and we even had the budget to rip out the old, heavily curtained windows and replace one with the fabulous Downtown Core Window. The other we took out completely because we wanted the focal point of the room to be this fabulous Queen of Pop Closet.

We really wanted to lighten it up in here so we covered all that dark paneling with the gorgeous Glam Boutique Wallpaper and we replace the dark Majestic Mahogany Flooring with the cool Dance Studio Flooring and a Shaggy White Rug. Then we bought a few pieces from the Polka Dot Theme. We used a couple of adorable Polka Dot Welcome Mats at each door, and added a Cushioned Blanket Chest and two Polka Dot Chairs.

The Mocha Magic Low Bed has the clean lines and neutral coloring we were looking for and we thought that the Coffee and Cream Side Table and Mocha Three Drawer Dresser set off our look perfectly.

I’m proud to say that Debbie was so happy with the results. We’re so glad. Debbie is a good friend of ours and we really wanted her surroundings to match her professionalism and style.

What is the Ming China Panda fridge thingy doing in there?!?!? And the ladder leading up to the Vanity mirror doesn’t look natural either. It doesn’t look right, other than that, it’s pretty good!

I so LOVE this new room! It is wonderful – light, colorful, airy! Debbie must be, as Ms. Cowoline would say, “Over the moon!” with her new space. All the best! MDIChickadee

I love the look of the second room but think it is just too bad they didn’t keep the windows from the first room, I really like those windows. Her new bedroom doesn’t have any windows.
