In our last release we changed Webkinz forever with the ability for players to earn free pets just by regularly playing the game. Your response has been overwhelmingly positive to this new feature. Who doesn’t like free stuff?
We have also heard your requests to make the medallions easier to collect. And we will be making some exciting changes in this regard.
First though, let us explain that yes, we rolled out Pet Medallions knowing that they would be difficult to collect a lot of them over this first release. We did this for two reasons:
- We want trading in your medals for a new pet to be exciting. Like that first time you traded in your Gems for the legendary Crown of Wonder. Something that you worked hard for and that is very satisfying when you succeed at reaching your goal.
- To get that balance right, it’s always easier to add new methods of collection, than it is to take methods away.
So far we’ve had three ways to collect:
- Our initial floating medallion event that awarded one per day.
- Our arcade prize system that can award up to 10 per day.
- Our Daily Gift award, as many of you were surprised to discover as we kept this one a secret for you to find
Starting in our next release we will be making the following changes to give you even more chances to find medallions:
- We are significantly improving the odds of getting a prize drop when reaching a good score in the arcade, and we’re improving the odds of your prize being a pet medallion.
- We are improving the odds of getting a medallion from the Daily Gift.
- Starting in August, Deluxe Members will receive pet medallions in their monthly Gift Box in addition to the current monthly awards.
- We will be adding Medallions to the Wheel of Wow and as prizes for some of our Daily Activities in a future release. We had hoped to have these in the next release but we’ve run into some technical issues.
- Finally, in our August release we will be replacing the current Magic W floaty-clicky prize pool with Pet Medallions! Yes, you’ll have a chance to find another pet medallion every day!
We are also adding another SIX pets for you to collect in this next release, taking the total available up to 18. Here’s a sneak peek of these pets:

I feel it should still be only through trading cards, just to keep the rarity high; I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a lot of Mystical Pandas in the next several months.
Yeah, speaking of rare pets, they should just put ALL the rare pets in it, you know, the Sweet tooth tiger (only available to Ganz employees), Wintermint reindeer and all the other VERY rare ones.
Ooooooo, the MYSTICAL PANDA!! Have you any idea how many boxes of trading cards I purchased to get this pet? I never did get it, but I got some other nifty mystery pets. So excited and YES, another good reason to keep my Deluxe account going!
I have found two mystical pandas before with trading cards. I’ve never found a magical retriever, though. Maybe that pet might be added in the future to the pet medallion pets.
I don’t see how you could be happy they did this, people have spent well over $500 looking for the pet and never got it, but that doesn’t mean they should let it be a free pet, that’s a total insult. My parents bought me the card for my brithday and I know how expensive and VERY rare it is, so I always cherish it. This made me so mad.
Rainelda, I have spent enough to paper my walls. It seems a fitting reward for one so loyal. I choose to be happy about it. I have most of the other rare pets and I would not be sour if others won them from hard work. You choose to feel the way you feel, I choose to be excited and happy that others can have an opportunity to have a rare pet. Not everyone has a big pile of Kinzcash in their backyard at their disposal, this could be the only chance they ever get.

They are extremely hard to get a lot, and I have done the math, that if you play webkinz for a few hours and a few days, you have to play for like a few months, and you don’t know if youll even get a medallion, so its like a year. I think some of these changes to pet medallions will happen on July 4th when the site is updated. Some won’t happen until August or a future release, depending on what it says in the article.
