URGENT: Keep Playing With the Desktop App!

Due to an issue beyond our control, as of January 1, 2021, Webkinz Classic will no longer work on browsers. The Flash plug-in, which is required for our site to run will not be supported by browsers after December 31, 2020.

The good news is that Webkinz Classic has a downloadable Desktop App that functions exactly the same way as our original site, but it doesn’t require a browser in order to play!

To make sure your play is uninterrupted, it’s important to download the Desktop App as soon as possible.

Ask your parents for help downloading the Desktop App and installing it on your computer.

Downloading the app is simple. Just visit the Webkinz homepage, and click one of the download buttons. There is a version for Windows and a version for Mac.

When the download has completed click on the wxsetup.exe in Windows or wxsetup.dmg on Mac in your Downloads folder and follow the prompts.

Once it is installed, you’re all set! You can continue to enjoy the same game you know and love!

And remember – you must install the Webkinz Classic Desktop App before January 2021 in order to enjoy uninterrupted play.

I can’t find out how to download the webkinz app

Specifically which version of Flash Player does the Desktop App require? Where can we download this specific version? Can you provide a link for it on Newz?

But the desk top app does not have all the stuff we can do on other devices :(

What kind of stuff can’t you do on the app? I can do everything I usually do. Daily Activities, Wish of the Day, Employment Office, Arcade games. The only thing I don’t like about the app is having to put in my username and password every time for my 2 accounts.

Hi @Unikitty16. Do you mean the mobile app for cell phones? If so, you are correct – you can only do a few things like decorate your rooms, dress and care for your pets and play a few games. I was very thankful when they added collecting the floaty clickys. The app that the article is talking about above is the full game on an app that you download onto your computer. Then you can just access it whenever you want from the Webkinz icon on your home page. You won’t need to (and won’t be able to) access Classic Webkinz on a browser like Chrome, Edge, or Firefox starting in 2021. The Desktop App is the full game, and hopefully they will also continue to expand the mobile app. I would love to be able to do my dailies and collection events, like the candy cane collection on the mobile app! I hope that this helps to clear things up a little. If you are still not sure, keep asking questions. There are a lot of helpful people here.

We just updated the desktop app toeay and at first we had problems, then we re-started and after a while it worked. BUT THEN Macafee virus protection told me that it had detected a virus in the Webkinz app and has removed the virus. (which might be why it took so long) Please check that!

    • Elizasw says:

Yeah, I had the same McAfee problem yesterday when I tried downloading the desktop app for the first time. I tried three times, and it happened each time. I tried posting about it earlier in this comment section, but I have not gotten a response yet.

    • DworkinBarimen says:

I’ve been having issues too and I have McAfee… thanks for posting this, maybe I can figure out a way around it. Mine keeps uninstalling.

      • Rachelgirl says:

I tried again and this time, Macafee said there is no problem and let me install it. So apparently it is not the Webkinz app accusing the problem but Macafee itself. I read (in forums) that it does this with other apps, too, saying there is a virus but there is none. We just prolonged our Macafee for another year just before this happened, I wish we hadn’t, because we suspect it is causing other problems, too (e.g. losing internet connection very often for no reason at all).

My computer (a Mac) keeps sending me a pop up to uninstall Flash – I recall the desktop version uses Flash just not in the browser – should I uninstall Flash once January comes around (I’ve downloaded the app but will continue to use the browser version until I can’t mostly because I CANNOT MINIMIZE the screen and so much of the screen is really wasted space – probably necessary(?) but I don’t get a bigger active space from it (not that it matters). I go to other applications and scroll through my mail, the news, etc. while I’m waiting for rooms and/or activities to load! Thanks!

    • DworkinBarimen says:

The desktop version does NOT use flash. It’s the browser that does. That’s why they came out with the desktop app. And the desktop app has all the features the browser version does.

I forgot to ask, I just purchased 1 year deluxe membership in Oct. 2020, will I loose that membership money?

I have issues with the app. I’ve posted to them but they did not help. I have found some help and some don’t. I lose my scroll button on just one account. How can it be my computer when the rest of the accounts are ok? My park and clubhouse are so small, I can’t read the writing, but my laptop is plenty large enough.

Is there any update on how making the app available to Chromebooks is going? My only computer is a Chromebook, and I know a lot of kids have them, so I’m really hoping it’s a possibility, because I really don’t want to be forced into a hiatus from Webkinz!!

It is going to be Super hard to copy enter codes in the code room with WW being Full Screen. I have a 25″ desktop screen and my codes are in emails or on the notepad app, I have hundreds to enter. Any Suggestions?? When I opened the new WW app for the first time I had to shut it done fast. It was so large and I had not realized that the app would cover the controls for the volume or mute button. Hope they can fix both of these in the near future.

    • DworkinBarimen says:

I do an alt-tab switch between windows. You just need to have another window open before you open the desktop app. It’s a pain, probably easier to print and enter that way of you can.

    • jsforfr says:

I hadn’t even thought about that, you are right, it will be a lot harder entering the codes. I have been begging them for years to please change the code box to be able to paste the entire code at once, rather than one small segment at a time and I think now it would be even more helpful than before. That way would save so much time and with the app, it would especially make it easier only having to tab away for a new code, not for each segment of the code.

The login screen remains blank for me (no login/sign up buttons showing up, only the background) and it’s been like that for months, what should I do about it?
