Webkinz Next: Changes to Gardening

Since the release of Gardening in Webkinz Next, it has consistently been one of the best ways to earn KinzCash for players. Plant your crops, wait a few days, collect your crops, sell them for fun and profit. We love gardening so much that we added the Farmer’s Market to give you the ability to earn even more KinzCash selling your crops.

Over the years, some players have taken gardening to an extreme, filling multiple properties with nothing but crops and earning so much KinzCash that our own internal alert systems meant to prevent cheating have thought that there was a problem when there wasn’t. Simply put, the economy of Webkinz was not designed for this much KinzCash to be earned this easily.

We have therefore made some changes to how gardening works:

1) If you have 500 or more crops (growing plants), either planted or in your dock, you will no longer be able to purchase additional seeds from the W-Shop. This is a “soft cap” on gardening. If you have more than 500 crops planted right now, it won’t affect them in any way. Also, you can continue to purchase your three seeds per day from the Farmer’s Market, even if you have more than 500. This cap does not apply to harvested food/crops.

2) Plants can now dry out. You may now see a Watering Can over your crop. If you leave the plant without watering it, it will not continue to grow. When you do water the crop, it will return to its bright color and be ready to move to the next stage the next day. To be 100% clear, your crops can never “die”. All being dried out does is delay the growth cycle. Also, crops planted in the Farmer’s Plot will never become dried out. So, we’ve added a little work to gardening that rewards players who tend to their crops daily.

3) We’ve removed the notice for when your crops are expired, as long as you have at least one soil in your dock. This a much-requested feature from dedicated farmers, and we are happy to add it, while ensuring that players who are new to gardening know why their crop disappeared.

We have more plans to continue to improve gardening, such as adding weeding, bountiful harvests and rewarding players for dedicated gardening by giving their plants additional harvests beyond the standard 10. Finally, we are considering ways of allowing players to earn additional Farmer’s Plots.

Gardening has long been a popular feature in Webkinz World and we will continue to aim to make it fun and profitable, while ensuring that it is a balanced part of Webkinz’ gameplay.

Hmm. My biggest issue with farming is replacing crops. I wish that when a crop was exhausted, I could just click to replace, pay the kc, and keep going. Having to place new crops is something I dread so much that I just gave up on farming, for the most part. Now it’s going to be more work? Yea, I’m not sure about this. I don’t mind the extra work, maybe, but not when the crop needs replacing, I have to get the seed, I harvest another and my inventory bounces back to new items, and I have to get another seed, then I go to place and it bugs out…not really very fun. But…the basic structure is, so I appreciate the general idea. We’ll see how it goes!

I am pretty sure that my account is one of the problem accounts. I am a shut-in and I end up spending a lot of time on webkinz. Right now I have 1,500 of each plant type growing I also have 1,500 of each type of seed. I usually replant right away then purchase new seeds. If I am going to only be allowed to plant a total of 500 would it be possible for me to have the seeds that I have in my dock replaced for the full price that I paid? When I purchased them I purchased so many because I thought I would be able to replant as soon as I harvest. I will not enjoy gardening in this way and it will take a long time to get through those seeds this way.

I feel bad you are being “punished” for being so diligent and faithful with your farms. It is no small feet to accomplish a farm that size. When I started “commercial farming” (I lovingly coined it) on Webkinz Next, I compared it to the principles of investing. You give up the things you want for a little while to invest in a crop that will earn you money down the road. That is also educational.

I do wish that a webkinz representative would consider my account. I have 450,000 in kinzczsh that I spent on the seeds and I will lose half of that selling them back at the typical sell price. When I purchased them there were no restrictions and I had no reason to expect that to change. I have 200 pets so this is not slowing down my spending. On my original webkinz account I have almost 20,000,000 in kinzcash and I still garden. I still spend money making my account deluxe. I have more than 600 pets on that account and I keep playing. I keep adding pets when there is one that I really like. I have earned around 4.5 million on my next account by gardening which is why I am sure my account is one of the reasons for this change.

You don’t have to sell the plants back, you just can’t buy more growing plants from the W Shop until you’re under 500.

I guess my problem is that I do not want to garden that much with the new way of doing things. it is a total of 9000 seeds that I have in my dock I really don’t want to garden that much with the changes. It would take me years to go through that many seeds only using 500 at a time. I would never have purchased all of them if I knew this was going to happen.

          • sally says:

The 500 limit is on purchasing. That’s the only change. You can plant as many as you want.

          • theroundabout says:

I’m fine with the changes. I will still play and still enjoy my next account I just think it would be fair for me to sell them back for the price that I paid since their value was changed after I purchased them and without any warning.

          • sally says:

All items sell back to the W Shop at 50%. The sell price wasn’t changed.

          • theroundabout says:

What changed is their value to me. I would never have spent 450,000 kinzcash on seeds with this style of gardening. You are doing a great job of answering my posts but maybe I should try calling Ganz? Do they still have customer service that talks with people?

          • sally says:

There is no phone support available, no. You can try contacting webkinzsupport@ganz.com

Thank you Sally. I know that you have your hands full with this.

The ONLY thing that sounded good to me was an extra Farmers Plot. I strongly dislike weeding etc. :( I play to have fun not to have to do work. just sayin.

  4. P00KA2 says:

I agree with others.. having to water is not something I want, and I definitely don’t want to have to weed. Always considered Webkinz next as a magical place where there was enough sunshine and rain for the crops to flourish. Please reconsider this. The only thing good would be being able to get another farmers plot. And no one has hundreds of crops, but for those who do if it makes them happy please let them be happy

  5. marnabear1 says:

Unless I can earn a farmers plot I will cut down on gardening,

  6. LadyBeauty says:

I am not happy with most of the new changes since I have less than 50 crops growing at a time on my Farmhouse property only and have very limited internet access /and time to play on both Webkinz Classic and Webkinz Next. I am lucky to have a couple hours most days that can be spent on both Webkinz sites. With all the time required to do the gardening like it was originally on Classic, as well as time needed to do all the other events, tasks, challenges, for both games, I’m not going to be able to complete much of anything because I won’t have enough time. As it is, I haven’t been able to catch the Ghost on Next 3 times each day because I often don’t find him until over 30 to 60 minutes after I collected the last prize from him. I don’t have unlimited access to the internet at home. In fact, I don’t have the luxury of having internet at home, I have to use the public library’s internet access in order to use my laptop. I understand needing to put a cap on those who go to excess with gardening, but please don’t make it harder on those of us that still would like to have fun and enjoy Webkinz with what little time we have to actually play and not be forced to be task driven to maintain and complete goals, then not have time to just have fun and be creative.

I think they added watering to teach little kids to take care of plants like they did in classic that is why they have you water them. I think it would be a good idea to have the plants grow as normal but if you water and weed them you can get extra harvests. That was for those who cant log on daily can still get there crops and for those who can do daily and put the time into it can get extra harvest.

  7. claibornefarm says:

This is NOT a good idea. Look at the negative feedback on this update. Please reconsider. I don’t agree with it and those watering cans look like a big mess in the garden. What possessed you to think of something like this? This type of game is supposed to be relaxing. You have many people in an age category that just want to relax and play a game, not chores. I have chores in real life, I also weed in real life. I’m not happy with losing the ticket money, and now this. I have over 80 pets on Next. Please reconsider. My kids are telling me to go play Sims instead.

  8. kaye10 says:

good for you w-Next! but now, could you please also make it possible to sell the hotel check-in desk? i could really use the kc–i only have an extra due to one of the challenges where we had to spend & i chose it planning to re-sell. now it is stuck forevermore in my trading folder as no one else wants it either. thanks & best, k.

  9. Zooooooz says:

Did the update include a limit on Arcade tickets? Because I am no longer earning them :(

  10. crystalfawns53 says:

First, I’m really grateful that the soil notification is no longer present because it would be irritating to have them after growing at least 100 crops at the same time and having them all expire at once. However, I am personally not a fan of the whole drying out process or future plans for weeding. These were some of the features that I really did not like on Classic that I was so elated to find out when they were removed on Classic. As such, I am beyond disappointed to hear about this feature to coming to Next. I never grew beyond 500 crops, but even growing around 100-200 crops, I personally feel that the whole drying out and weeding process would take a lot of time out of enjoying other features that I really like to do on Next because these were the very features that originally made me dislike and stop gardening on Classic. I just really hope that this kind of update is reconsidered. Otherwise, I cannot wait to hear about more harvests and more opportunities to get more farmer’s plots on Next. Maybe in the future we could get more crops, potentially ones for specific times for the year that could provide unique competition crops?
