First of all – thank you again to everyone who entered our 2017 Pet Design Contest. We can’t say enough how difficult it has been to choose a winner. There were almost 900 amazing entries which we narrowed down to a list of ten wonderful finalists. We read your comments and we discussed it among our team.
We decided to go with a unique pet based on a real animal that we think will make a great addition to the Webkinz family. The adorable Axolotl by Taydarsauce is our winning design and will be available in the eStore starting on Webkinz Day 2017.

Speaking of cute real life animals, are there any plans for an olinguito? You couldn’t get any cuter than this! But this really should be a plush, since they’re so fuzzy. Look this one up on the net – SUPER adorable!!!!

The whole point of them making a new pet is so everyone can buy it. I hope they do a plush version, but I think it’s going to be virtual only..

Probably not. They usually don’t make the winning designs of these contests into plush pets– and they haven’t done it yet.
is the axolotl going to be an underwater pet?
Hi bunniesareevil3231! Axolotls are amphibians like frogs and so this is not going to be an underwater pet in Webkinz World.
Mandy not listing it as an underwater pet will allow us to use many more clothing items . So thanks even if pet is a water pet ;) .
Mandy it would bo SO NICE to have a water pet clothing item just 4 times a year. Each season just 1 item would be so nice . Dresses that look nice on heavier pets also . NOTHING fits a snowman (lady) so I only dress in hats sad :( .

They are amphibians, but they actually live pretty much exclusively in water. Unlike most amphibians, they don’t loose their gills when they become adults.
From what I’ve been reading, while it’s true that Axalotls are amphibians, they never go through metamorphosis like tadpoles. Tadpoles transition into frogs and leave the water to dwell on land, but axalotls never naturally go through that stage. Throughout their life, they remain underwater unless they are synthetically injected with iodine in a lab, which forces them through a phase of metamorphosis. In nature, they are strictly underwater creatures.
This is a water creature Xochimilco Lake in Mexico .Sometimes called Mexican WALKING fish ! But it is a kind of salamander look them up on the web they ate so cute and kind of fluffy looking. Also called a water (atl) and dog (xolotl) These in real life regenerate limbs also .
In real life NEVER take them out of water !
The PSI I suggested was Xochimilco Lake itself, and I added a parade boat for the pet to sit it, just like the ones that people ride in Mexico. :)
It ought to be, given the fact that it’s the only salamander that spends its whole life underwater. Pittiesrule
