Choose Your Own Story – Booger Tries to Stop the Robot

Booger realized that he would have to take care of the robot problem himself. He couldn’t leave it alone in his room – it was just too risky. If he was going to stop this thing he was going to need some sort of protection. In his room Booger looked around to see what he could use a shield. His desk was made of metal. Quickly he pushed his desk onto its side and slid it closer to where the robot lay flailing on the floor.  Sparks flew as yellow beams from the robot’s laser pinged off the metal surface of the desk.

He grabbed his metal trash can from next to where his desk had sat and dumped its contents on the floor of his room. Booger plunked the trash can onto his head. It was difficult to see clearly but if he tilted his head back he found that he just could make out what was going on in front of him.

He looked at his hands. They would need some sort of covering if he hoped to be able to reach the power switch. He thought about running to Goober’s lab and grabbing a pair of flameproof gloves, but that would mean coming out from behind his desk and with laser beams ricocheting all over the room, that was the last thing Booger wanted to do. Frantically he searched around the bottom of his closet for anything that might help. He looked up and immediately had an idea. He grabbed a coat hanger from the closet and started to unravel the thick wire until he had a long misshapen piece of metal in his hand.

Booger peeked around the desk and quickly ducked out of the way of an errant laser beam. He carefully reached around and guided the wire hanger toward the robot. A beam zinged off of the trash can on his head. He saw the end of the hanger nearing the switch. Sparks flew in every direction as lasers spurted madly from the robot’s arm. With a quick movement Booger pushed at the switch with the hanger. There was a crackling sound and the smell of smoke as the robot ceased its thrashing. It lay quietly on the floor.

Booger took a deep breath. Maybe his camp instructors had a point when they said his fiddling with the robot could have dangerous results. As he slumped back against his desk, Booger realized that what he really needed right now was some fresh air. Then he remembered the strange object he had spotted in the backyard. Now would be the perfect time to investigate. As he headed down the hall, he passed the door of Goober’s lab and saw that it was still slightly open. Booger thought to himself that after the lessons he’d learned from the robot fiasco, he might have gained enough knowledge to get a start on that rocket ship. He paused in front of the lab door.
