Adventures on the Tropical Island

Roberta here. It has been such an amazing couple of days. First of all we took a glass bottom boat out to this reef where we got to go snorkeling and see all these cool, colorful fish. The only thing was that it was pretty wavy that day and Alex started to float out to sea. The current was so strong he couldn’t swim back to the boat. I mean, he was wearing a life jacket, but it was still pretty scary. But one of the guides from the boat swam out and pulled him back in.

Later that afternoon we took a bus ride out to the jungle to go ziplining. We went up these wooden stairs to this platform above the trees and we were strapped into harnesses. We got to zip along a line across the tops of the trees. It was so much fun – it felt like we were flying!

There is also a climbing wall and bungee jump right on the beach at our resort. The climbing wall is like this giant rock right on the beach (except it is not a real rock.) I almost didn’t get to go climbing because I only had flip flops but Cowabelle loaned me her sneakers so I could go on. The bungee jump is this big trampoline. They strap you into a harness and you bounce up and down. You can go really, really high and do some crazy flips! You can stay on as long as you want and I thought Stoogles was never going to get off!

Then this morning we went out in dune buggies! First we got to go to this beautiful beach and go swimming. It was so pretty. Then we took our dune buggies to this really cool underground cave. There were steps going down into the cave and we got to go swimming in this underground lake. How cool is that? But the best part about the dune buggies is that we got completely covered in mud! You drive through these giant puddles of muddy water and the mud sprays all over you! Nibbles hated it. She said she never wanted to go dune buggying again. But most of us loved it. Sparky was completely covered in mud from head to toe, but then he was kind of disappointed because he drove through a puddle where the water was cleaner and it washed off all the mud!

Sounds so fun! I wish I could go and do all that stuff, but I would probably be scared to do it. :P And Northwestern, you are so lucky! I wish I could go and do that even more than what Roberta and her friends did!

        • Northwestern...actually says:

This summer, my whole family is going on a Disney cruise around Alaska and Washington State, and on one of the stops, we’re going to go ziplining. The only one in my family who has ever been ziplining is Kodiak, who would spend all summer at camp if it were her choice. I’m a homebody, but I’m looking forward to it, because I’m actually going to see the west coast, and in Washington state, we’re going to see the coolest boat ever, the F/V Northwestern! Which is why my username is what it is…

Northwestern, you are sooooo lucky! I wish I could do that! Your friend sarahandlacey!  ;-) :-)

Same here. And Moonstar, congrats on your sea dragon! ^^

          • Kodiak...how about- says:

I think Nibbles needs to learn how to deal with being messy. I have been on camping trips where there wasn’t a place to take showers for four days. You cleaned off by swimming in the creek. I don’t mind getting muddy, and nowadays they actually said that kids who played in mud were less likely to get sick because they were exposed to dead germs that built up immunity without making you sick

          • Moonstar says:

Um, sorry to burst your bubble but you shouldn’t need to or try to change Nibble’s attitude twords mud. Some people are just scared/grossed out by mud, it is natrual. I honestly hate being super muddy, which sucks for me because I am goalie of a Club Soccer team and and constantly diving into dirt and mud and getting kicked in the face with dirty cleats. Kodiak, and besides, that isn’t really the point. Sorry if I sound rude in any way. -Moonstar◙◙◙

          • Kodiak...that's not exactly what I mean says:

What I mean is that Nibbles should focus on the fun parts, and not the being muddy part. Besides, there have been two times this school year that Nibbles got sick. I camp two out of the three summer months, and I haven’t really gotten a bad cold or anything else in two years. Getting kicked in the face with cleats does sound bad though. My sister plays soccer in the yard with her friends, and the dog remember to wipe the dog’s paws BEFORE letting him in

      • Boston ROCKs...I'll be ziplining this summer! says:

My awesome aunt booked us a disney cruise this summer to the Pacific Northwest, and it’s going to be awesome! According to Ann-, Kodiak is an expert zip-liner, probably good since nobody else in my family has ziplined

      • OceanBay says:

Congrats on Clark Moonstar! (If you don’t want one of his emerald tables, I would! :) )
This sounds like paradise for me Roberta, can I snag a ticket and come along? Hope you have a great time! -OceanBay§§§
P.S. Dune Buggying I think is a real word.

That sounds so awesome, Roberta!!! But it must have been scary for Alex to get pulled in a rip-current. That happened to me once…ugh. NOT fun. All in all, it sounds like the best vacation in the history of the world!
