Ella McWoof here with a special report from summer camp. Right now I’m on assignment – embedded deep within Camp St. Bernard, a summer camp for ‘Kinz (actually I’m a C.I.T. here, but ‘embedded’ sounds WAY cooler!)
So let’s hear from the campers about what life’s like at Camp St. Bernard.
EM: Sparky Fact, you’ve travelled here from Kinzville. Tell us – what has been the most memorable event for you so far this summer?
SF: Does it have to be a happy event?
EM: No, no, not at all.
SF: Okay, because I guess the most memorable part of camp so far for me was when Ivy put pepper in my milk. It’s not exactly a memory that I’ll cherish – but I’ll never forget it, that’s for sure! But I guess one of the best memories I’ve had so far was when we camped out on the beach. Alex and I woke up really early to watch the sun come up over the lake and then we had a rock skipping contest. I made one skip FIVE times!!! Alex couldn’t beat that, but he’s pretty good too.
EM: Here we are with Roberta Rabbit. Roberta, tell me some of the memories you’ll take home with you from camp.
RR: Well, I really liked when it was our cabin’s turn to do the cooking. We got to make pancakes for breakfast one day and Cowabelle and I were trying to make pancakes in the shape of letters and spell out each camper’s name on their plates. We were laughing so hard because most of the pancakes looked nothing like the letters they were supposed to – they were just weird looking blobs. And then laughing made our hands shake so then our pancakes looked even worse! If only you could have seen some of our friends’ faces when we served them these mutant pancakes!
EM: Now we’re talking to Salley Cat. Salley – tell us about your camp experience this year.
SC: Well, I got totally freaked out when we went camping in the woods and Roberta told her ghost story! And I just loved making all the crafts we did with Kimmy. One day we made these super-cute sock puppets, and then a few days later it rained and we all got out our sock puppets and each cabin took turns putting on a puppet show. The boys’ show was so silly – it was about a farmer who lost his tractor and Stoogles did the funniest voices! Everybody in the audience was laughing their heads off!
EM: Alex Tiger, we’d love to hear some of your camp memories.
AT: Um, I guess my favorite part of camp was going on a scavenger hunt. We had to find different colored items and put them in an egg carton. I really love being out in the woods and exploring. We found this cool cave while we were out hiking and Sparky dared me to go inside. It was pretty spooky – once I got inside it was almost pitch dark, and then Stoogles thought it would be funny to start howling outside. I almost jumped out of my skin! I turned around and ran straight out of the cave and Sparky and Stoogles were rolling around laughing. It took forever for my heart to stop pounding.
EM: Cowabelle Cowoline – what do you have to say about camp?
CC: I had the most awesome time! I love sharing a cabin with my friends. One of my favorite parts of camp this year was seeing all the changes that Hailey and Elwin made to the cabins. But I guess my favorite memory is when I put on my own play. It was pretty complicated – I wrote and directed it myself – but everyone worked really hard to pull it off. Kimmy took charge of the set building and costume design and had all the campers involved in creating the props. I even asked Elwin to be in it (Hailey told me he is a natural-born performer!) When the time came to perform in front of everyone I was pretty nervous, but it all went off without a hitch. I was really proud and on closing night during our curtain call, Amanda presented me with a bunch of roses!!!
So there you have it, readers. This is just a small sampling of some of the wonderful memories that have been created at Camp St. Bernard so far this year. This is your roving reporter, Ella McWoof, signing off (because I have to go help Kimmy clean up the craft cabin now!)
Good for Cowabelle!
What a great story! I really liked it!
what about Stoogles??
