Final Dress Rehearsal!

Hi there! It’s Molly here. I am soooo nervous! Our school play is tomorrow night and I am playing Maid Marian. It has been so much fun rehearsing with everyone over the past couple of weeks, but now that it’s down to the wire – well, I’m getting butterflies in my stomach!

We had our big dress rehearsal today and you could say things didn’t exactly go smoothly. Alex is playing this character called ‘Much’, who is Robin Hood’s sidekick. Much is supposed to be kind of clumsy and I guess Alex took his role to heart because at one point, when he was in a sword fight with the Sheriff of Kinzingham (Stoogles), he knocked over two trees that we were using as props. He got dirt all over the stage and Ms. Cowoline had to stop the rehearsal so she could clean up the mess.

And I guess it was typecasting when they gave the role of the bad guy to Purr-cilla. Man, talk about a prima donna. Sparky and I are the two leads of the play but by the way she carries on you would think that Purr-cilla was the star. She was late for rehearsal today, which kept everyone waiting because she is in the first scene. When Ms. Cowoline went looking for her, Purr-cilla was sitting in the dressing room in a mood because she didn’t think her costume was flattering. She had to wear all black (because she is the bad guy!) but she said she didn’t see why her character couldn’t have a pretty dress like the one I was wearing. Ms. Cowoline said something about it being a dramatic ‘device’ to dress the villain in black and that it would be too confusing to have us dressed the same. But honestly – leave it to Purr-cilla to wait until the last possible minute and then throw a hissy fit.

But you know what? I didn’t want to say this to her and give her the satisfaction of complimenting her performance, but I have to say, Purr-cilla’s foul mood carried over really well into her bad guy act! We all thought she was particularly nasty as Lady Gayle today!

And I don’t want to give anything away, but Sparky and I have a little stunt at the end of the play and today in rehearsal he nearly crushed me! I think he got nervous and rushed his jump, but um – well, you’ll see what I mean tomorrow. Let’s just hope I’m not as flat as a pancake when I come out for my curtain call!

Oh! I’ve really got a case of the nerves now. I hope everything goes okay tomorrow!

Wish me luck!

(On second thought, DON’T wish me luck. Ms. Cowoline says that’s bad luck to say that in the theatre. You’re supposed to wish me a broken leg instead! Weird!)

You know what they say; bad rehearsal, good show! (which makes less sense than the whole bad-luck-means-good-luck bit, but well…)
    Break a leg, Molly!
