Goober and Booger’s Heart to Heart

Hey there. It’s Goober, Booger’s big brother. Am I ever feeling like a fool. I’ve been so wrapped up in my own stuff and locked away in my lab for so long I haven’t been paying as much attention to Booger as I should have. When I took him to see Dr. Quack this week it was a real wake up call. I just assumed that Booger had sense enough to make sure he was eating right and getting out and playing with his friends. I guess I didn’t notice that he has become more and more engrossed in his video games and he was letting everything else slide.

So I sat down with Booger this morning at the kitchen table and we looked over all the information that Dr. Quack sent home with Booger. When Booger saw how many health issues can arise from not eating properly and not getting enough exercise, I think he started to realize that this was more serious than he thought and that he’d better start to make some changes.

So we made a plan to get Booger more active. I put a chart on the fridge where Booger can track how much physical activity he is getting. He can also keep track of what he is eating and how much of it. I explained that if he eats small portions throughout the day, he won’t feel so hungry and will be less likely to overeat.

Then we went through the cupboards and threw out all of the chips, ice cream, cookies and soda. I could tell from Booger’s face how hard that was, so I explained that it’s not that we’re NEVER going to have those things. We’re just going to have them less often, that’s all.

Poor Booger. I really feel like I let him down by not staying on top of this. But now that he’s decided to change his habits, I’m going to give him all the support he needs to get himself back in shape.

I wish Lily were out more often, cause active is my middle name! Uh, Spottedactivepaw?

Wow. This is pretty sad. Goober cares about a healthy diet but not a healthy environment. He threw out food! Just because they’re not going to eat it now doesn’t mean they can’t save it for later!

    • CatLover says:

Are they going to buy a new bag of chips on occasion and then throw it away after eating one serving?

Food has expiration dates. Because Booger is going to need a lot of time to get back into shape, the food will probably have expired by the time he’s healthy enough to eat it.

      • CatLover says:

Not necessarily. Candy and junk food often expire later than other foods. And Booger is going off on the right track, though it will probably take a little while for him to get better.

It’s called taking away temptation, sometimes it’s easier not to eat something, if it’s not there. If he kept it in the cupboard it would be harder to resist slipping back to old habits. We only have treats at the weekend, they are bought on Friday, it also means I try to behave better during the week.

Hmm, why has Booger’s folks never been mentioned in all this? It says he has parents so why is it poor Goober has to take care of his brother instead of them?
