It’s Laurabeard here. I was hoping this school year was going to get better, but instead it seems to be getting worse. The other day I went over to Nibbles’ locker to show her my new pencil case and Janice was standing there with her. My brother bought me this cool, retro Monkey & Monkey pencil case. It’s from this vintage shop he found on his travels and I thought it was really neat. But Janice said “That’s weird. Who would want someone’s old pencil case? Why didn’t he just buy you a new one?” I told Janice that was really rude and maybe she should go find Purr-Cilla and leave us alone. Janice said to chill out – that she didn’t mean anything by it. Then she said who was I to tell her what to do – she and Nibbles were hanging out first and maybe I should mind my own business. I told her Nibbles and I had been friends, like, forever and then Janice said didn’t I take off on Nibbles last year and go away just when she really needed a friend because Plumpy was getting married? Nibbles turned to Janice and said that when she told her what a hard time she had last year she didn’t mean that at all. Nibbles was telling Janice about me going away last year? Nibbles said that we were making a big deal of nothing that we should all hang out after school but I said no thanks. I don’t need to hang out with rude people like Janice. Then Janice said she didn’t need to hang out with people who abandon their friends. I wasn’t going to stand there and take that. I left. Nibbles kept calling after me, but the bell rang and we had to go to class then.

Really, ladies, this drama is self-induced, it’s not a requirement at your school! Nibbles, if I were you I’d go talk with Molly about all this. She’s really good with this sort of thing.

Wow, I am sorry! I thought Janice would be nicer, but I guess not! Tell Nibbles how you feel about Janice. If Nibbles chooses to stay with Janice than you, I think it’s time to find a new friend.

Laurabeard I know you didn’t abandon Nibbles, but you have got to be opened minded about Janice,but janice shouldn’t be talking becuz she was the one with Purrcilla ,taking advantage of Nibbles.

Maybe Janice was just joking or being sarcastic about the pencil case. People mess around with each other all the time at my school like that. They don’t necessarily mean it, and if they realize that it hurts someone’s feelings, they’re not likely going to do it again, unless the person snaps back on a way that is also rude, like Laurabeard did

Maybe Janice was teasing at first, or maybe she was just curious and Nibbles took it wrong. It did become mean though. Maybe Laurabeard should do as Narnian100 says and go apologize to Nibbles and find out how Nibbles feels about everything and ask what happened over the summer and how she became friends with Janice. She was gone a long time after all. ~DP

Middle school friendships can be complicated. Nibbles is deciding where her loyalty lies, and she might be influenced by peer pressure. i just hope she makes the right decision, because she’s the only one that can. I’ve had my share of friendship troubles too.
