Road Trip Crafts

Roberta here with three fun crafts you can make and take on your next road trip!

Felt Tic Tac Toe

What you need:

Three sheets of felt, each a different color, scissors, baggie, t-shirt paint

What you do:

  1. On one piece of felt, use the t-shirt paint to draw a tic tac toe grid.
  2. Let the t-shirt paint dry.
  3. From one sheet of felt, cut out five X’s.
  4. From the other sheet of felt, cut out five O’s.
  5. When you’re in the car, play tic tac toe with the person sitting next to you!

Car Bingo

What you need:

Marker, two sheets of paper, ruler, bingo dabbers

What you do:

  1. Draw a 5×5 grid on each sheet of paper.
  2. In the very middle square (3 down and 3 across), draw a star. This is a free square.
  3. In each of the other squares, draw something you might see when on a car trip. Examples would be: stop sign, yield sign, stop light, red car, blue car, green car, cow, horse, skyscraper, barn, silo, etc.
  4. Draw the same items on the other sheet of paper, but make sure you put the pictures in different spots on each page (except the free square; that’s always in the middle).
  5. Next time you’re on a road trip, challenge a friend to see who can get a row (horizontally, vertically or diagonally) first!

Scavenger Hunt

What you need:

Paper, pen, marker

What you do:

  1. On the sheet of paper, make a list of all the things you might see on a car trip.
  2. Work with your friend to see how many you can spot next time you’re on a road trip. If you like, copy the sheet of paper and time yourselves – see if you can spot everything within a given amount of time.

Aww I just got back from my vacation! Oh well I’ll make these anyway!

Sounds like fun. Anything to make a long trip less boring. We usually play alphabet games using car license plates. Another license plate game is, make a sentence out of the letters on a license plate, each word must start with the letters on the plate..example: if a license plate already has a word, for instance, “HELLO” we make silly sentences…Happy Elephants Love Licorice Oranges….QFR=Quality Fun Rules. It must be a sentence…not just random words. You don’t need any equipment, just your imagination. Happy road trip, everyone.

Thanks 4 the craft! I never went on a road trip be4 but I think it would b fun! On long trips I usually just bring stuff 2 do in a bag and put it in the car, that entertains me 4 most of the time. -SS-

I don’t go on road trips often, if I do, it’s once a year. And it’s a 7 hour trip. :D Moonstar, I do the same. We do spot something, or like your have to find something outside for each letter and go through the entire alphabet! It’s hard when on my road trips its in the middle of farms and fields, especially cows! ;) >^..^< Meow! Stealthstorm

nice crafts. I might try them.

Wow Roberta. So, what happened to your baby sister/brother??? On our roadtrips, we listen to the radio or play Spot that Animal. Basically, we shout out an animal that we see, and my dad gives us the pts. for how rare the animal is. Like a bear would be like 1000 pts, where as a cat would be like 30 pts. -Moonstar◙◙◙

Cool Moonstar, my family usually reads, listens to music, and my sister and I play tons of games, and sleep. My mom actually made felt Chutes and Ladders for our last road trip. What did happen you your baby sister/brother??? Your game is cool to Moonstar. We are still together on the room idea right :?: ~*Mistyfoot*~ Warrior lover

This is so awesome! Next road trip, I know what I’m doing now! I’ll start right now to make it! Oh, and when my family and I are on a road trip, I usually listen to my I-pod or txt my friends, and my brother will play his Nintendo DS. @Moonstar-That’s really cool! -♥nihao9♥

      • doglover says:

i really like the idea of the car bingo but the thing is my family would rather just enjoy the ride and sleep than play games!~doglover

      • Chicago Made says:

@nihao9 – You’re exactly like me. If I went on a road trip, I’d listen to my iPod Touch, text my BFF’s on my cell phone, and I’d play my guitar (Yeah, I’d bring my guitar). If I left my guitar behind, I’d be a boring person. You know that “Eh” person (Boring person). ;) @Moonstar – That sounds kind of fun. I think my cousin played a game with me like that. :) Hey, Roberta, I like your craft ideas! When I was little, my mom would give me a list of the animals that you could possibly see when you’re on a road trip, and I’ve spotted a lot of animals, and that includes a pack of wolves – The wolves were just in a field, while the car was just driving by, and I saw them. It was so cool, because I love wolves. :) ~ⒸⓗⓘⓒⓐⓖⓞㄨⓂⓐⓓⓔ
