Roberta’s Ghost Story Tips

Tonight I’m going to frighten my friends with a creepy ghost story around the campfire! Here are some of the ways I make my tale especially spooky.

The first thing I have to think about is who I’m talking to. There may be some younger kids from the camp who might be frightened by more serious ghost stories. If it were just older kids I could get much eerier. I always go to the library to find lots of scary story ideas.

I’m going to get Cowabelle to help me with some sound effects – she’s going to slam a cabin door at a suspenseful moment, and rustle the trees by the campfire when I describe a monster in the woods. We’ve practiced together a few times so we both know it well and won’t make any mistakes.

We’re going to have a stereo nearby to play spooky music very softly in the background. A campfire makes the perfect lighting for a ghost story, but some extra candles can add a chilling touch. We’ll make sure it’s dark outside before we begin. While I’m talking, Cowabelle can fan the flames to make the candlelight flicker.

I’m going hold a flashlight under my chin while I talk to give my face an ominous glow and speak very quietly, so that my friends need to lean in to listen. This will make Cowabelle’s sound effects all the more shocking.

When I reach the climax of the story, I speak very slowly to drag out the suspense. And at the final moment I’ll give a loud scream.

Cowabelle and I are really excited – with all our preparation to create the right atmosphere, we will have them shaking in their boots!

I think these are AWESOME ideas!!!

My suggestion: instead of you screaming, have the
Music suddenly stop, then have a CD on hand with just a scream on it.

Also, some scary things to play:

Bethovens 5th symphony (i think: duh duh duh duhhh du du du duhhhhhh…)
    Für Elise by bethoven.

I love music. It can portray every Feeling out there!!

I don’t like ghosts. Ever since I made that ouija *pronounced WEE JEE* board, I’ve been paranoid about ghosts.
