School Council Minutes – October 24

Recorded by: Stoogles, Vice President

Re: Emergency Meeting of School Council

Called by: Salley Cat, President

In attendance: Salley Cat (see above), Stoogles, Vice-president and Purr-cilla, Treasurer

Salley Cat called an emergency meeting to announce to the members of the school council some very disturbing news. Today Salley went to Ms. Cowoline’s office to ask her about the planned route for this year’s Halloween parade in which all the students dress in their costumes and march through the school.

Ms. Cowoline told Salley that she had decided that because we spend so much time last month working on the play we’re behind in our studies, so Ms. Cowoline has decided to do away with the parade this year. Apparently it will take up too much of our valuable learning time.

Salley told Ms. Cowoline that she couldn’t do that and when Ms. Cowoline asked why not, Salley apparently responded that – and I quote – “Well, she just couldn’t.” Ms. Cowoline said that “just couldn’t” is not a valid reason to hold the parade and that there is a lot of material that we still need to get through in class. Then Ms. Cowoline said that unless Salley Cat came up with a very persuasive argument to have the parade, the subject was closed and sent Salley back to class.

Which brings us to our meeting.

Purr-cilla pointed out that Salley’s response to Ms. Cowoline was ‘totally lame’ and if we want to get Ms. Cowoline to change her mind, she would have to do better than that.  (I have to say – I kind of agree with Purr-cilla on this one. Oops – can I erase this? Uh oh.)

So Salley closed the meeting by announcing that we would reconvene tomorrow and share our ideas.

I’m in agreement with most of the comments here. School doesn’t exist so that Kinz…or kids for that matter…have structured play time. It’s about learning. Learning to think, to reason, to plan, to be responsible. So if you want to do something fun you have to THINK of a REASON why it should be worked into the schedule, PLAN on how it will be accomplished, and be RESPONSIBLE enough to get all your work done and still have fun. Salley’s answer was lame but Purr-cilla and Stoogles should help come up with the support of the parade instead of saying Salley should just do it by herself. Maybe that’s one reason Salley acts like that.

  2. Lovie801 says:

I think I agree with the cat because if there is no parade what is there going to be exciting for the month october?

  3. MDIChickadee says:

Is there a way to do the parade during free time? Perhaps at the close of school? 15 minutes for everyone to don their costumes and then have the parade as they leave school? If the kinz are behind on classwork, they need to think hard to find a valid reason to have the parade, or find another way to do it. Good luck, Kinz! I know the parade means a lot to everyone!!

I do not do Halloween, but for those that do why not after school has stop for the day, after school time then it does not stop you from learning. and if you do more mums and dads will be able to come. if my child had a show to put on I will be able to come if it was after school. if it was in school time then I will not be able to come and this is not good because I like to see what my child does.

  5. akorn says:

The Student Council can suggest having the parade at recess or lunch time. Maybe Ms. Cowoline will give a few minutes of learning time and let the students have the parade if she sees that they will give up some of their free time, too.

    • PrincessLunaIsDaBomb says:

I agree, akorn. Having the parade at recess or lunch time is a good idea. Not only will the students be happy for having the parade, but Ms.Cowoline will be happy that it doesn’t cut into schoolwork. Everyone will win that way. :)

  6. Anti-Salley says:

OK, I so wish Salley wasn’t president. She’s just really annoying in my opinion. She makes a HUGE deal out of every little thing. She acts like she’s a miracle worker or something. And we all know that the parade will go on because Salley will once again save the day.

  7. iceangel3 says:

There are two things i can think of…One is to brainstorm ways to make the parade educational, and then if that does not work you can have the parade at dismissal.

  8. Hawkeye says:

Nice Mrs. Cowoline. I really like her sometimes. They came to school not to have parades…

  9. frogger.......IS STUNNED!!! says:

Well we finally get to see their first meeting and Ms. Cowoline wants to stop the parade! I have to agree with Purr-Cilla on this one as well Stoogles. You should tell her that it is learning to do this, you learn how to make the things for the parade and everyone gets to see you in your costume!

for once i actually like purrcilla O.o i know scary right?

    • sarahandlacey says:

      I agree lugwee! ;-)

      • twolittlefootprints says:

SCHOOL IS IMPORTANT ?!?!?! I agree with Ms. Cowline. Can’t you just have a Halloween parade AFTER school? That would make sense.
        (studies are importante!)

        • Northwestern...okay, this is weird says:

Wait, how old are the kinz? Middle school? At my elementary school, no one in fifth grade even dressed up for the parade, except me, which was pretty embarrassing. Oh never mind, my school… * sigh * You would think that if someone threw a roll at someone else, everyone could watch from their seats, but “en-oh” NO. So, we got sprayed with something that got in my eyes, even though I was in my seat, minding my buisness, and they wouldn’t let me wash it out. And I had a bad dream last night.

          • Kodiak is confused says:

Hey, what happened? Fight… with food? Gross! And did the spray burn? Did you have to take home a letter?

          • starburst is with kodiak-confused says:

what do u mean they sprayed you? i’ve never heard of a school doing that! that doesn’t seem right. what kind of school do you go to that would do that? is it in a bad neighborhood or something?

          • lillyluvie says:

I love Halloween. If I were going to school at the Kinzville Acadmey, I would really want to have that Halloween parade. So, Salley, I encourage you to find out a way to have the parade! :D
At my old school, we had a Halloween Bash on the Friday before Halloween ( so much fun! ) and there was a dance and games and prizes and… wow it was a lot of fun. They still do it too. I still get to go because my friend still goes to that school and she invited me to go. Its gonna be fun! Since I just came to my NEW school this year, I am inviting friends from my new school and my OLD school. So that way, my friends from my old and new school can meet each other. I hope my Party will be great and everyone will have fun!

            *Luv from LillyLuvie*

          • Gameboy says:

Yeah lillyluvie! Its good to have fun now and then!

          • ABC says:

Parties are fun, but studying is way more important. Our school doesn’t even spend a lot of time on Halloween, we just stay after school and change into costumes for our party. I like that better than spending class time partying.

          • starburst says:

            o, btw, i think the kinz r n 6 or 7 grade

        • Sweetie4 says:

The kids got time off for their play! They can do their parade some other time!!! This is not that important. I’m very disappointed.

        • Gameboy says:

I don’t agree twolittlefootprints  . Halloween is like the only holiday where you can have fun(don’t forget christmas and easter). Yeah, maybe you shouldn’t have TOO much candy, but no parade? Learnings fun and all but if you don’t have any down time what would make school more fun?(but school would probably be better ) This would probably make sense if you were like 9 year olds( my birthdays 2 months from now) like me :P

      • Me the Dudette says:

Without recess, kids don’t do NEARLY as well in school. They actually did a study on this. Yes they did. And the Halloween parade counts as recess (time spent relaxed and having fun without studies to do) I think. Ms Cowoline, I really hope you’re reading this!

    • starburst says:

that is scary lugwee! i don’t se why mrs. cowoline won’t let the kids do it! they need outlets like that to make school more bearable! :D
      ***starburst***

    • HarryPotterNarwhals says:

No, you should like Purr-cilla best!!!!!!!! I LOVE Purr-cilla, favorite WW character? She is SOOOOO right, that was WAY more than Totally Lame! That was like a Z-! (if there WAS one) i don’t like Sally, she’s WAY to leader like, yuck? Who wants someone like THAT probably bossy  so lugwee, if yuou don’t like Purr-cilla, well, anyone who doesn’t is…… BANANAS!!!!!!! SHE RULES THE SCHOOL!!!! Who’s with me???

      TTYL,
      HPN, BLUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

      • lillyluvie says:

I actually kind of agree. I really like Purr-Cilla: I like her name, her outfit, her pesonalitly, and her role in school. :D She would have made a great President, but she makes a great Treasurer too. And as for Salley, she is doing a good job as President. And Stoogles… Stoogles is just AWESOME! He’s my favorite. ;)

        *Luv from LillyLuvie*

      • snuggles56100 says:

Then I am BANNANAS!!!!! Because I like Sally and Stoogles. Even though I voted for Stoogles, Sally is A good president!!! but I do like Purr-Cilla’s sense of style.

        add me . i’m snuggles56100

    • Silver Wolf says:

I mostly agree with everyone! I think that ( as jinx said) The kinz should give Mrs. Cowline a better reason. I understand that there hasn’t been much work, but maybe they can do a vote of who wants a halloween parade or not. The people who have a hard time learning just need more homework to understand more better. :) That’s my opinion.

      ~Silver Wolf

    • SwedishLatte says:

Keep the parade! Keep the parade! Parades are always fun you know. And while studies are important, it’s not going to be pleasant if no one wants to study and would rather be in the parade. And lugwee, you’re right that Purr-Cilla is a little likable for once. :D
      ~*~*~SwedishLatte~*~*~

    • Crocker says:

      FARIES!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Tumble says:

I kind of agree with Purr-Cilla, too. Not that I have anything against Salley! After all, I voted for her in the school presidential election. :)
Oh, and BTW Northwestern? The ‘Kinz are in Grade 7 except for Alex, whose in Grade 6.
